Men's point perm for volume at Geek Hair, a Wangsimni hair salon

Today I'm bringing you a review of Geek Hair Wangsimni, a men's hair salon in Wangsimni I'd recommend. This time I visited Geek Hair Wangsimni and got styled by designer Taekyung.

Where is Geek Hair Wangsimni, and what are its hours?

Geek Hair Wangsimni is on the 1st floor at 9 Majo-ro 1ga-gil, Seongdong-gu, Seoul. Come out of Wangsimni Station Exit 6 or Exit 13, head downhill, turn left at Hanshin Udon, and you'll spot Geek Hair about 30m ahead.

Wangsimni Station is served by Line 2, the Gyeongui-Jungang Line, and the Suin-Bundang Line, and the salon is only about 137m from Exit 6, so it's pretty close to the station.

Inside the salon: atmosphere and consultation with designer Taekyung

The moment I walked in, the whole place felt stylish and clean. The interior was tasteful and the space well organized, giving off a comfortable atmosphere for getting your hair done. It was neat but also had that modern salon feel, so I liked it from the first impression!

After arriving, I first consulted with designer Taekyung about the style I wanted. For men's hair, even the same down perm can turn out differently depending on hair texture or head shape, so he checked my current hair condition and consulted with the style I wanted in mind. This time I wanted something clean and natural rather than overly styled — easy to manage on a daily basis.

Hair before the appointment: puffy sides, flat top

Let me show you what my hair looked like before the treatment!

Overall my hair felt a bit dry and unkempt.

In particular, the lower back of my hair had grown out to an awkward length that looked messy. The side hair wasn't neatly trimmed either, so overall my head looked a bit puffy.

So this time we decided to use a cut to clean up the overall lines, a down perm to calm the side hair, and a point perm to add natural volume on top.

Cut, then down perm, then point perm: how the men's style was done

First came the cut. He trimmed the overall length and cleaned up the lines on the sides and back.

Next, the down perm! So many guys have that problem of side hair sticking out. Even if you cut your hair perfectly neat, flyaway side hair can make the whole head look puffy — but the down perm pressed it down and it looked noticeably cleaner. It wasn't pressed so flat that it looked awkward, more like a natural calming effect, which I liked.

After the down perm calmed the sides, we moved on to the point perm. If you only do a down perm, the whole head can look too flat, but adding natural volume on top shaped the hair much more nicely. It wasn't an overly curled style — more of a natural volume boost — so it seemed good for everyday men's hair too.

They gave me a drink too, haha.

With the side hair pressed calm and the top keeping its volume, the overall balance got much better.

Before and after: how the side hair and top volume changed

Finally done! After the cut, down perm, and point perm together, the whole vibe was clearly different from before. What I liked most was definitely the side hair. The part that used to stick out was now calm, making my whole head look much neater, and the natural volume on top kept it from looking flat. Best of all, it wasn't overly styled — it's a men's hairstyle that's easy to maintain day to day.

What I liked most of all was how neatly the lower back of my hair was cleaned up! That part used to look messy before the treatment, but after the cut the line was sharp and it looked much tidier.

Can you see the before and after difference?! The back view especially changed so much that just cleaning up the back of my hair alone made this treatment really satisfying.

Is Geek Hair Wangsimni worth it for a men's down perm?

This time I visited designer Taekyung at Geek Hair Wangsimni and got ✔️ a cut ✔️ a down perm ✔️ a point perm, and overall I was really happy with it. If you're looking for men's hair or a down perm in Wangsimni and your side hair tends to stick out, I'd recommend getting a down perm along with your cut. Pressing the side hair down neatly while keeping natural volume on top made the whole style look much more put together.
