Seongdong Italian restaurant for brioche beef tartare: Sedici

It had been a while since I went looking for a nice spot in Seongsu for pasta 🍝 This time, I visited Sedici in Seongsu-dong!

It is on the first floor of Seongsu-dong Arc Valley, so it was not hard to find from Seongsu Station. 📍 37 Seongsui-ro 22-gil, Seongdong-gu, Seoul, South Korea (서울 성동구 성수이로22길 37 성수동아크밸리 1층) 🚗 Building parking available (weekdays and weekends) ⏰ Weekdays 11:30–22:00 / weekends 12:00–22:00

There are so many good restaurants in Seongsu that choosing one can be hard, but Sedici had a wide range of pasta and gnocchi, so it looked nice for a date or a casual meal too.

My honest review of what we ordered

That day, we ordered fried Chodang corn potato gnocchi for ₩24,000, butter pasta for ₩24,000, and beef tartare for ₩19,000. We also added brioche to the beef tartare for ₩3,000!

Beef tartare with brioche

First up, the beef tartare! It is made with ribeye and round, gim (roasted seaweed) pesto, pickled shallots, and chives, and we ordered it with brioche to have alongside it. The beef tartare was better than I expected 👍🏻

The meat itself was tender, and perhaps because of the gim pesto and pickles, it felt a little more flavorful than having the meat on its own! Putting the tartare on the brioche made it easy to enjoy in one bite. Of everything I had that day, the beef tartare was one of the dishes I quite liked.

The texture of fried Chodang corn potato gnocchi

Next was the fried Chodang corn potato gnocchi! It comes with fried potato gnocchi in a Chodang corn cream sauce, so it may feel a little different if you order it expecting the usual chewy gnocchi. I tend to like soft, chewy potato gnocchi, so personally I preferred regular gnocchi to fried gnocchi haha.

Still, the sweet flavor of the Chodang corn and creamy sauce worked well together. If you like the distinctive crisp texture of fried gnocchi, it might actually feel like a fun change.

The butter pasta I liked best

And then, the butter pasta, which was my favorite! It is made with Isigny AOP butter, shrimp, and linguine, and I loved the subtle nutty flavor of the butter. The shrimp were plump, and the linguine was nicely thick, so the sauce came together with it really well.

Since it was butter-based, I wondered if it might be too rich, but it was less heavy than expected. Of everything we ordered that day, the pasta was my favorite 🤍 If you want pasta in Seongsu and are looking for something a little different, this could be a good choice.

How was it for a Seongsu date or meal with friends?

Overall, the food was neatly presented and the space had a nice atmosphere, making it a good place for a date or a meal with friends in Seongsu. The butter pasta especially suited my taste and was delicious, while the beef tartare was also nice to share alongside it.

The fried Chodang corn gnocchi is different from typical gnocchi because it uses fried potato gnocchi, so if you are curious, it could be worth trying once haha. If you are looking for pasta or gnocchi in Seongsu, or an Italian restaurant with a nice atmosphere, keep Sedici in mind 🍝
