I heard there was a famous wakppu salt bread (왁뿌소금빵) spot in Uijeongbu, so I made a special trip to check it out. This place sells everything from plain salt bread to financiers, but it's the wakppu salt bread — stuffed full of different ingredients — that's especially trending lately.

I've never touched a wakppu ball before, but I couldn't skip the wakppu salt bread haha. I tried it myself and the fillings were seriously generous, so let me introduce Byway Bakers, a Uijeongbu wakppu salt bread spot I really enjoyed!

I found this place while searching for wakppu salt bread in Uijeongbu — it's a bakery that's mostly used for takeout.

Wakppu salt bread is so hot right now that I figure other people make a special trip out here too, like I did. If you're looking for wakppu salt bread in Uijeongbu, Byway has both the Cheongsa Main Branch and the Uijeongbu Station Branch, so you can go to whichever is more convenient.

The first thing that caught my eye walking into the store was, of course, the wakppu salt bread! It's wrapped like fruit packaging, so it looked pretty cute right off the bat haha.

When I visited, there were three kinds of wakppu salt bread: peach yogurt, blueberry yogurt, and fig-Basque cheesecake.

There was also Dubai chocolate salt bread, wakppu financiers, dujjonku (chewy cookies),

chocolate baguette, Hong Kong pineapple buns, and a really wide range of other bakery items. There were multiple types of salt bread and quite a few financier flavors too — this is a place that'll make any bread lover's eyes light up!!

There was also a separate financier gift package, which looked good for a simple gift.

Of everything, this was the one I was most excited for! I tried the peach yogurt wakppu salt bread first, and cutting it open, the filling was way more generous than I expected.

It's a combination of peach jam + real peach + yogurt, and there's a ton of actual real peach in there!!!! It's practically like a whole peach got stuffed in, it's that generous!!

First off, pass — the peach filling is generous, and you can really taste the bright, sweet flavor of the peach. The outside has a chocolate coating that cracks crisply with the first bite, which was fun texture-wise too. Add in the sweetness of the chocolate and it pairs really well with the peach's brightness — genuinely tasty.

I've been into peach desserts lately, so I had high expectations for this one, and eating it, the bright sweet-tart peach flavor really came through clearly. If you like bright, sweet fruit desserts, this is the one I'd recommend!

Fig-Basque cheesecake wakppu salt bread is sweet and salty

I also tried the fig-Basque cheesecake wakppu salt bread haha. There are big chunks of fig with Basque cheesecake inside, and yes, the fig chunks were generous here too.

The fig Basque version definitely has a stronger, richer cheesecake flavor. Because of that, the slightly salty character of the salt bread itself also comes through more, so instead of being just plainly sweet, it's a good sweet-and-salty combo alongside the richness of the cheesecake.

The chocolate coating on top also cracks satisfyingly, which makes it fun to eat, and the fig chunks are big enough that you really taste them with every bite. If you like figs, this is a must-try!

Comparing the two I tried myself, I think it comes down to personal taste.

The chewy milk bread is great too

It felt like a waste to only buy the wakppu salt bread, so I also picked up a plain milk bread loaf. The chewy yet soft texture was quite nice.

Beyond the flashy items, even the basic bakery goods here are good, so it seems like a great spot for anyone looking for a Uijeongbu bakery to try a variety of things.

The wakppu salt bread I tried at Byway Bakers this time was definitely a different style! With salt bread stuffed full of fruit or cheesecake filling, eating just one felt like having a proper, impressive dessert.

The peach yogurt wakppu salt bread was especially delicious to me! There's so much peach packed inside that it should suit anyone who likes fruit desserts. On the flip side, if you like the rich, savory flavor of cheesecake, I'd also recommend the fig-Basque cheesecake wakppu salt bread!

I was curious about the wakppu salt bread that's trending in Uijeongbu right now, so I went and tried it myself. The fillings were more generous than expected, and the two menu items tasted clearly different, so it was easy to choose based on your preference. If it's your first time trying it, I'd especially recommend the peach yogurt wakppu salt bread. It's packed with peach, so if you like fruit desserts, you'll definitely love it!
