Gangnam Seoul Korean BBQ with robot-grilled bone pork: Chobeoljip

After finishing my wedding-dress fitting, I was really craving meat and found Chobeoljip Apgujeong Rodeo Branch. It also has that outdoor-table atmosphere, so I think it will get very busy once the weather turns cooler.

This is Chobeoljip, a new restaurant in Apgujeong Rodeo. It has branches in Gwangjin-gu and Namyangju too, but this one also has outdoor-table vibes, so I think the atmosphere would be even better after work on a Friday or on the weekend. It was a little warm when I visited, so we sat inside.

It is 90 m from Exit 6 of Apgujeong Rodeo Station. Since it is near the valet booth, you can leave your car for ₩5,000.

The valet booth is located before you turn left, just before the alley in front of the restaurant.

Robot par-grilling and how to order

There is a robot in the restaurant that grills the meat. It par-grills it nicely, so you only need to cook it a little more on the grill at your table, which makes the meal much easier.

To order, scan the QR code at the corner of the table and open the link. You order in advance, then pay for everything together when you leave.

This was the basic table setting. I liked that the salt, wasabi, and ssamjang (Korean dipping paste) came individually rather than being shared.

Along with two kinds of wrap vegetables—perilla leaves and lettuce—you get kimchi, bean sprouts, and pickled side dishes.

A staff member even recommended grilling the kimchi and bean sprouts, saying they are delicious that way.

Bone-in pork belly and soft tofu stew for three

The three of us visited and ordered the bone-in pork belly first. The meat attached to the bone is secretly so delicious, right?

They also grilled shishito peppers and mushrooms alongside the pork belly.

The staff member cut the kimchi into easy-to-eat pieces and grilled it for us too.

Because the robot par-grills the meat at just the right temperature and with the right technique, it felt like it cooked very quickly on the table grill. A staff member cooked the entire first round for us, while we cooked the additional meat ourselves.

We also ordered the soft tofu stew as a side. It comes in something like a jjamppong bowl, and it is generously portioned and pleasantly spicy—perfect with rice.
