Cheonan budae-jjigae lunch with glass noodle add-on: Cheongwon

In short

Cheongwon Restaurant: Cooking Budae-jjigae, Cheonan Dujeong Main Branch is a budae-jjigae (army stew) restaurant in the Dujeong-dong food alley in Cheonan, Chungnam. Over lunch with her husband, the writer ordered Cheongwon budae-jjigae for two with extra glass noodles, received a free egg roll for writing a receipt review, and used the self-serve bar for unlimited rice and ramyeon refills. The broth at Cheongwon is clean and sharply spicy rather than heavy, an easy, familiar meal even after a long gap between visits.

Cheongwon Restaurant's signature Cheongwon budae-jjigae

A budae-jjigae (army stew) spot in Dujeong-dong worth remembering: Cheongwon Restaurant's clean, mildly spicy broth.

I was craving budae-jjigae so I stopped by Cheongwon Restaurant again after a while. I'd been a few times before, but this time I went for lunch with my husband. The stew here is great, but the generous egg roll that comes with it is one of the reasons I love this place haha. Here's my story from revisiting this Dujeong-dong favorite — still just as good!

Where is Cheongwon's Dujeong branch, and where do you park?

Cheongwon Restaurant: Cooking Budae-jjigae, Cheonan Dujeong Main Branch sits in the Dujeong-dong food alley. There's a parking lot in front, but it was full when we arrived, so we parked in the surrounding alley and walked over ㅠㅠ!!

There are quite a lot of tables inside, and since it was lunchtime, plenty of people were already eating.

Cheongwon's self-serve bar: unlimited rice, ramyeon and a high chair

There's a separate self-serve bar on one side of the restaurant where you can get unlimited refills of rice and ramyeon noodles!

Since I go out with kids, I always check whether there's a baby chair — and Cheongwon Restaurant has one ready 😊

The menu includes Songtan budae-jjigae and Cheongwon budae-jjigae, plus pork cutlet, so there's no need to worry about what to order even if you bring kids haha.

Cheongwon budae-jjigae for two with extra glass noodles

We ordered two servings of Cheongwon budae-jjigae. It comes with beef short rib slices and cheongyang chili.

There was also a generous amount of ham and sausage, and we added a serving of glass noodles, which we love.

How to get the free egg roll at Cheongwon

One of the reasons I love this place is the egg roll!!

Thick free egg roll served as a complimentary side

We wrote a receipt review and got the egg roll for free. Even as a freebie, it was a generous portion, packed with egg, thick and delicious haha.

Egg prices aren't exactly low these days, so getting such a generous egg roll for free made it even better. You can get it free if you visit before 11:30am, or by writing a receipt review.

Clean but sharply spicy broth, finished with ramyeon noodles

Cheongwon Restaurant's budae-jjigae has a broth that isn't too intense — it's clean and light, which is exactly what I like about it. It's spicy enough to have some kick without being overwhelming, so I kept eating it with rice, bite after bite haha.

The added glass noodles soaked up the broth nicely and were delicious too.

And since budae-jjigae just isn't the same without ramyeon noodles haha, we added a serving of ramyeon at the end.

We were already pretty full, but we still finished off the ramyeon noodles without missing a beat hahaha. Maybe because it had been a while since I'd visited, it felt extra nice this time. It brought back memories of eating here before, and the flavor was still just as familiar — a comfortable, satisfying meal.

Honest verdict on Cheongwon in Dujeong-dong

I've been here a few times, and even after a while it was just as good haha. I especially love that the broth is clean and mild rather than intense.

We got to enjoy a generous egg roll on top of unlimited rice and ramyeon refills, so the two of us left really full. My husband, trying it for the first time, said it was delicious too, so I was glad we came together haha. If you're looking for a budae-jjigae spot in Dujeong-dong, I recommend Cheongwon Restaurant! I'll be back the next time I'm craving budae-jjigae 😊
