As the seasons change again and my body starts feeling heavy, "Ugh, I'm so tired!" naturally slips out of my mouth every day. So these days, we went somewhere that could satisfy both my mouth and my body — for some proper nourishment!

This time we visited a Hanam favorite for nurungjitang (scorched rice soup), "O Hyeongje Hwangje Nurungjitang."

O: Oh, a Hanam nurungjitang spot you'll want to come back to again and again Hyeongje: whether it's older siblings, younger siblings, mom, dad, everyone together Je: you can properly enjoy a meal here Hwangje: it felt like the kind of treatment an emperor might get Je: what I liked best Nu: was the variety anyone can enjoy, plus the self-serve side bar, and Rung: the generous amount of nurungji (scorched rice) packed in Ji: the sizzling warmth that lingers from the hot stone pot Tang: and once you finish a bowl, you realize — this really is a place for nourishment.

Parking and interior at O Hyeongje Hwangje Nurungjitang: a wide lot and big tables

O Hyeongje Hwangje Nurungjitang Hanam Misa Main Branch has generous parking in front, behind, and beside the restaurant. Even a nervous beginner driver (like me) can park with peace of mind — plenty of space, then head inside~

Entrance to O Hyeongje Hwangje Nurungjitang

We arrived before the main lunch rush (basically right at opening time), and there were already people eating. I could see why this is a Hanam nurungjitang favorite — and honestly, the long waitlist posted at the entrance made the popularity even more obvious!

Spacious dining hall with large tables

The restaurant is genuinely huge, seriously huge, and since stone-pot dishes are the main event here, the tables are enormous. With a child around, you can really relax knowing there's plenty of room away from the hot parts.

What a mother and daughter ordered in Hanam Misa, and what it cost

We ordered seafood abalone nurungjitang for 20,000 won and mini raw tenderloin tangsuyuk for 20,000 won. I went with Ms. Eunhasu (aka mom), and taking her preferences fully into account, here's what we picked.

Table set before ordering

Six basic side dishes and eight more on the self-serve bar

O Hyeongje Hwangje Nurungjitang's basic sides come out as salad + baek-kimchi + dongchimi + green onion kimchi + dried radish strips + seasoned namul.

While waiting for the main dishes, we tried them one by one, and every single one tasted better than what you'd get at a hanjeongsik (Korean set-meal) restaurant. The dongchimi in particular was seriously, seriously delicious — the radish was crisp without being hard, and the broth had a nice tangy kick.

Oh? There's a self-serve bar! And it has 8 side dishes~ On top of the basic sides, they even thoughtfully include kimchi and dessert. And finally, the main dishes arrive.

Mini raw tenderloin tangsuyuk, 20,000 won: why is the "mini" so generous?

First out was the raw tenderloin tangsuyuk, and soon after came the seafood abalone nurungjitang. Mini raw tenderloin tangsuyuk

A generous pile of mini raw tenderloin tangsuyuk
  • I figured "mini" would mean a small portion
  • but nope~ I was shocked by how generously piled up it was!
  • Pineapple, bell pepper, jujube and more were scattered on top,
  • which made it fun visually too, with all that color.
Tangsuyuk topped with pineapple, bell pepper and jujube
  • The fact that there's no fruit or vegetables mixed into the tangsuyuk sauce itself —
  • this part I really, really liked.
  • When they're in the sauce, sometimes the vegetable smell bleeds through
  • and you lose the vegetable's texture too, which can be a letdown — but having them separate was great.
Tangsuyuk sauce and meat served separately
  • Taking a bite of the tangsuyuk
  • no gamey smell from the meat, and a crisp, crackly texture!
  • The sauce was sweet and tangy, not watery in texture but chewy and soft.
  • The tangsuyuk was in top condition when dipped.

Cross-section and texture of the tangsuyuk
  • Honestly, the tangsuyuk meat was tasty even plain, with no sauce
  • and tasty dipped too,
  • and eaten with the vegetables above, it felt fresh and nice.
  • It's the kind of flavor kids would really love!

Seafood abalone nurungjitang, 20,000 won: one stone pot per person

Seafood abalone nurungjitang

The nurungjitang performance of pouring rice and ingredients into the stone pot
  • The performance of receiving the nurungjitang is something else from the start!
  • Watching the nurungji, sauce and ingredients poured onto a truly scorching-hot stone pot
  • right in front of your eyes made my appetite spike even more.
  • Sharing with someone is nice, but a solo pot of nurungjitang just for you?
  • It genuinely felt like an indulgent, uplifting treat.
Individual stone pot of seafood abalone nurungjitang
  • A thick, rich, deeply savory sauce
  • softened the crisp nurungji as it melted gently into the hot broth
  • (though it still kept that distinct grain-by-grain texture).
Nurungji softened in the broth
  • An overflowing amount of seafood (shrimp, squid, baby octopus and more) plus abalone — hard to believe at this price
  • Blowing on a spoonful and taking a bite, it genuinely tasted like a feast fit for royalty.

  • Not too salty, seasoned just right, with a dense, rich broth —
  • drinking it made me feel like I was properly nourishing myself.
  • It was a deep, clean, satisfying flavor!

A seasonal pick-me-up worth bringing the whole family back for

My stomach was genuinely warmed through, almost like coming back from a hot spring — refreshing and delicious. This Hanam nurungjitang favorite, "O Hyeongje Hwangje Nurungjitang," was on my mind the whole time, thinking of Mr. Ildeuragon (aka dad) and Choin, who couldn't join us this time. Both the taste and the nourishment left us fully satisfied! I left with my heart full of "next time, the whole family has to come together" — such a grateful find.
