Free-corkage pot rice lunch in Sangam, Seoul: private seats at Solsot

In short

Solsot Sangam Branch is a pot rice (solsot bap) Korean set-meal restaurant on Maebongsan-ro near DMC Station in Mapo, Seoul. Free corkage, a wide main hall and a private inner area with three 4-person tables and one 2-person table made Solsot Sangam an easy choice for a work lunch, where the lobster shrimp pot rice and the freshwater eel pot rice ended with broth poured over the nurungji (crisped rice). Quiet and calm, Solsot Sangam works just as well for group meals, dates or treating parents.

Going further inside, there's a slightly private space! It seems great for a group reservation haha. Also perfect for coming with family~

It's laid out with three 4-person tables and one 2-person table haha.

Of course the main hall is also great for groups! It really seemed like a lot of people come for lunch group dinners. There are a lot of companies in Sangam, and Solsot sits right in the middle of it, so the location is great too.

What we ordered: lobster shrimp pot rice and freshwater eel pot rice

It looked like Solsot had new menu items! So we ordered the lobster shrimp pot rice and the freshwater eel pot rice haha.

Guide on how to enjoy Solsot pot rice

Each table has a guide on how to enjoy Solsot pot rice the best way, so check it out and enjoy each type of pot rice to the fullest ♡

Full spread of lobster shrimp pot rice and freshwater eel pot rice

Here's the lobster shrimp pot rice and the freshwater eel pot rice ◡̈ I love how neatly everything comes out as a full spread — it's a Korean set meal, but distinctive and pretty to look at haha.

The side dishes differ depending on the pot rice: the lobster shrimp pot rice comes with kimchi, jeotgal (salted seafood), gochu ganjang (soy sauce with chili), and gim (seaweed), while the freshwater eel pot rice comes with perilla leaves, wasabi, pickled ginger, myeongi namul (wild garlic leaves), and kimchi. The soup and salad are the same for both haha.

Freshwater eel pot rice

Here's the freshwater eel pot rice! Can you see the pile of thick eel on top — the sauce-glazed eel looks so delicious 🤤

This eel pot rice seems great as a health-boosting dish haha. Also a really good menu for treating your elders!!

The eel was grilled just right! No fishiness or toughness at all, really delicious — even the tail was hearty and firm haha.

The freshwater eel pot rice had rice subtly seasoned, so it was even more enjoyable! Piling thick eel and wasabi onto the rice and taking a bite, that mouthful of eel was really delicious 🥹🤎

The pieces of eel were big too, so there was good chewiness, and the umami was, needless to say, top-tier 🤤

New menu item: lobster shrimp pot rice

Next is the lobster shrimp pot rice! Since it's a new item, I was even more excited haha.

New menu item: lobster shrimp pot rice

Bok choy, lobster shrimp, and a generous pile of cheese sit on top of the stone pot rice haha.

The lobster shrimp was lightly tossed in a tomalley sauce! It wasn't fully cooked through, so it had a plump, satisfying texture haha.

Can you see? It still has a slightly raw-shrimp feel. Eaten together with the bok choy, it went really well and tasted great haha.

Piling lobster shrimp onto the rice and adding jeotgal too! Topping each pot rice with its matching side dish doubled the flavor haha.

Wrapped it in gim and had it with the soup too haha. I really love a Korean set meal.

How to eat at Solsot, and the broth nurungji finish

For pot rice, as soon as the food arrives, they move the rice and contents to a side plate right away! Then they pour in broth, close the lid, and you enjoy the meal from the transferred plate!

Once you've finished the rice on your plate, it's time for the finishing touch: nurungji (scorched rice).

Nurungji made by pouring broth into the pot

Unlike other pot rice restaurants, Solsot uses broth instead of plain water, so the nurungji was even more delicious haha. I heard the broth is made with mackerel powder and dried anchovy, among other things! The umami is no joke haha.

A spoonful of umami-rich nurungji

Adding a few leftover lobster shrimp on top to eat together brought the texture, broth, and nurungji into perfect harmony — such a great way to finish!

They even gave us yogurt to finish haha. I ate well and left happy!

A Korean set meal spot with such a great atmosphere for group dinners, dates, or blind dates — Solsot ♡ Visit with someone special on a good day haha.
