Spicy nurungji chicken with rice in Yatap, Seongnam: Jangjakkun

Today I'm introducing an oak-fired scorched-rice (nurungji) whole chicken specialist called Jangjakkun Yatap Direct Branch! The visuals alone are killer... it was so good I added rice and mixed it all together. Here's the review, everyone listen up haha.

Where is Jangjakkun Yatap Direct Branch, and where do you park?

Jangjakkun Yatap Direct Branch is over toward the restaurant alley near Yatap Station Exit 1 or 2. It's right there facing the alley — great, right by the station :)

No dedicated parking lot though... T_T In the evening I'd recommend roadside parking nearby!!!

Arrived at Jangjakkun Direct Branch, a Yatap chicken favorite..! The place was pretty spacious! The smell of firewood was already wafting from the entrance~ so much anticipation ><

What time does Jangjakkun Yatap Direct Branch open?

Concentrate, concentrate! On weekdays Jangjakkun Yatap Direct Branch opens at 16:30, and on weekends/holidays it opens 30 minutes earlier at 16:00 haha. It runs every day, Mon–Sun 16:30–24:00, with last order at 23:00.

Looking at the brochure, the menu items look serious. Drool... I want to eat everything.

Inside Jangjakkun Yatap Direct Branch: atmosphere and seating

Went right in haha. The first floor seemed to be the counter and kitchen area...! Went up half a floor and

Ta-da!!! There was this spacious hall waiting. Lots of people too..! Seems like everyone heard this place is good from somewhere :)

There were seats further inside too, and since we wanted to eat somewhere quiet, we snuck into a table in the back haha (why sneak in, you ask haha) my partner and I are extreme introverts... T_T

Menu and ordering: spicy seasoned nurungji chicken, 23,000 won

Scanned the menu board. Didn't realize there were this many kinds of nurungji chicken..!

You order using the tablet PC placed at each table haha.

• Jjapaguri instant noodles — ₩5,000

They were also running a receipt review event, so we joined and got a free drink >< total win! 🐶🐶🐶

Side dishes and the self-bar

After ordering, the side dishes came out quickly — yeolmu kimchi (young radish kimchi), pickled radish, salad, and various sauces.

The cola from the review event also showed up ✌🏻

While eating, if any side dishes or sauces ran low there was a self-bar to refill from haha. It was kept really tidy too :)

What does the spicy seasoned nurungji chicken taste like?

Finally, the spicy seasoned nurungji chicken I ordered arrives 🌟 Doesn't it look so tempting 🥺❤️

It comes out sizzling on a hot plate, and thanks to that plate we got to eat the chicken piping hot for a long time.

Two big chicken legs 🤤 The textbook definition of crispy outside, juicy inside... such a delicious nurungji chicken... they say it's carefully roasted for 90 minutes over the gentle radiant heat of oak firewood, so how could it not be delicious!!!

Making chibap: Hetbahn rice stirred into the sauce

There's nurungji (scorched rice) laid underneath the chicken too... it's fun scraping that up too haha. But most of all, this sauce is so addictively delicious... I thought, this is prime chibap territory... the nurungji wasn't even enough, so we ended up adding Hetbahn instant rice haha.

Mix it, mix it, mix it all up!!! Nice and thorough haha.

Press it down, press it down!!! Perfect chibap complete haha. With this sauce, I genuinely cannot resist chibap haha. Guess I'll go stuff myself, dot com.

Adding Chapagetti noodles for 5,000 won

Still wanted more, so we ordered jjapaguri too, and Jangjakkun nails that as well haha. Is there anything they don't do well? The fried egg on top was absolute perfection.

Mixed the fried egg all in and slurped the noodles up. Ugh... accidentally overate again today...

Is Jangjakkun Yatap Direct Branch worth it for chicken in Yatap?

Who said it could be this good, Jangjakkun Yatap... this is a problem... if anyone asks me for a chicken restaurant recommendation in Yatap, I'll point them here to Jangjakkun Yatap Direct Branch. The addictiveness is insane haha. Whole chicken to go is possible too, and the hall is spacious enough for group gatherings, totally doable. You get to taste both the chicken and the nurungji, so it's two birds with one stone. Just go check it out yourself. Your mouth will be happy.
