Songpa lettering cake shop raspberry lunchbox cake, 21,000 won: Circus

In short

Circus Rabbit is a custom lettering cake shop on the basement level of Jangmi Jonghap B Shopping Center in Sincheon-dong, Songpa, Seoul. For a 100-day anniversary, design No.4 with raspberry flavor was reserved through KakaoTalk for 21,000 won and picked up; the cake slid to one side on the way and lost its shape, but it was not overly sweet and the raspberry jam tasted bright, so the couple finished the whole thing. As a small anniversary cake for people who dislike very sweet desserts, Circus Rabbit delivered.

One-line review of Circus Rabbit's raspberry lunchbox cake

Circus Rabbit's raspberry lunchbox cake has such a cute, lovable design, and it wasn't too sweet but refreshing — we licked the box clean.

Why a lunchbox cake for a 100-day anniversary?

No matter the occasion, it just feels wrong without a cake. Neither of us is really into sweets, so we didn't need anything big — we went looking for a lunchbox cake that's light to eat but still sets the mood, and ended up ordering from Circus Rabbit, a well-known lettering cake shop near Jamsil-saenae Station in Songpa.

How to find Circus Rabbit in the Jangmi Shopping Center basement

Circus Rabbit is located in the basement of Building B of Jangmi Jonghap Shopping Center, near Exit 3 of Jamsil-saenae Station. At first I worried it'd be hard to find since it's inside a shopping center, but I found it faster than expected.

Once you go in through entrance 8, next to Hyundai Realty in Jangmi B Shopping Center, you find the shop immediately. It's really right there as soon as you enter, so as long as you find the right entrance, it's not hard at all.

Reserving on KakaoTalk and collecting it by unmanned pickup

Circus Rabbit takes both Naver reservations and KakaoTalk reservations. I placed my order in advance through KakaoTalk.

I went when the owner was there, but there's also an unmanned pickup option, so it's convenient either way.

As you can tell from their Instagram, the custom cakes come in a really wide range of sizes and designs. There was plenty to choose from — small cakes perfect for a low-key birthday or anniversary, all the way up to bigger cakes for family gatherings or a parent's birthday.

They range from elegant floral designs to fun ones using memes and internet gags, so it's easy to pick one that matches your taste.

Since it was just the two of us for our 100-day anniversary, we went with a lunchbox cake. There were about 12 designs to choose from even for the lunchbox cakes. I picked design No.4, raspberry flavor. It cost ₩21,000.

The size and price were both totally reasonable, while still setting the right mood for an anniversary — exactly what I wanted.

Aww, it's too cute. Even in a small lunchbox size, the lettering is adorable. It's pretty enough for photos, and just setting it on the table completely changes the mood of an anniversary.

Me, happily picking it up, haha.

The cake got knocked out of shape on the way home

But then a problem happened... We met up with Genie and he took over carrying it, and dropped it. Thankfully it didn't flip over so it wasn't completely smashed, but it slid entirely to one side and got messed up.

By the time we dropped it and opened the box, I was in a foul mood ^^. I think I gave the cake grief like 234 times.

Genie: Let me try to save the cake... / Oni: Worry about saving your own life, not the cake;; / Genie: Should I just smash my head on the ground...?

It's a good day, so I'll let it go, sigh. We somehow managed to get it set up at a nice bar.

We had a drink and lit the candles on the cake. Even so, small little events like this really are what make an anniversary feel special.

Just preparing one small cake, lighting the candles, and taking a photo is more than enough to feel special.

How the raspberry flavor tastes: light, tangy, gone fast

Raspberry jam and cream between the cake layers

Honestly, I usually don't expect much from the taste of these event cakes. Plus neither Genie nor Oni is really into sweets! But it wasn't as sweet as I expected, the cream was soft, and the raspberry jam between the layers was refreshing and delicious. Overall it was just sweet enough without being heavy.

Honestly, I thought we'd just take a few bites and stop, but we both ended up scooping it all up. Genie basically licked the plate;; If someone who doesn't like sweets says it's this good, that's a real endorsement.

Final verdict on Circus Rabbit in Songpa

Circus Rabbit is a great place to go when you want a cute, special lettering cake for an anniversary or birthday. Their custom cakes come in a wide range of sizes and designs, and even the lunchbox cakes have multiple designs to choose from, making it a good option for anything from small anniversaries to family gatherings.

You can book through Naver or KakaoTalk, and unmanned pickup makes it even more convenient. Most of all, the raspberry lunchbox cake we ordered was adorable in shape and satisfying in taste. For a small, just-the-two-of-us occasion like a 100-day anniversary, a lunchbox cake really is the perfect choice!
