Bossam boiled 3 times a day and a ₩10,000 set in Sangdaewon, Seongnam

In short

Bossam Ae Kalguksu Seongnam Sangdaewon Branch is a gabrisal bossam (boiled pork) restaurant on Geumsang-ro in Seongnam, Gyeonggi. The kitchen boils gabrisal three times a day, at 11am, 3pm and 7pm, and a small bossam order came with two servings of free kalguksu (hand-cut noodle soup) and self-bar rice, while the bossam set of bossam, kalguksu and rice was 10,000 won. Dipping the pork back into the hot kalguksu broth brought back that just-boiled taste, and that was the best part of the meal.

How the small gabrisal bossam tasted

After a bit, the gabrisal bossam I ordered arrived! Even the small size looked quite generous — very satisfying!

With the very first bite, I could really feel that chewy yet tender texture unique to gabrisal! The ratio of lean meat to fat was perfect, so there was no dryness at all — just pure, clean flavor! Paired with the crisp, sweet-and-spicy bossam kimchi, it was a truly wonderful combination.

For bossam, the kimchi needs to be delicious, and Bossam Ae Kalguksu passed that test with flying colors — the kimchi had a really mouth-watering flavor.

If even plain white rice from the self-bar wrapped with just the bossam kimchi tastes good, that says it all, doesn't it~?

Free kalguksu: dipping the bossam back into the hot broth

After eating my way through the bossam, I started craving some broth, so I dove straight into the kalguksu. Even though it was the free version, the portion was really generous.

After adding the noodles and ingredients to the broth, I threw in some of the cheongyang chili from the side dishes since I wanted it spicy!! And since bossam inevitably cools down as you eat, if you want to enjoy it warm, try dipping it once into the kalguksu broth — you can eat it like it was just boiled!

I wasn't expecting much since it was a complimentary kalguksu, but the broth was really clean and rich — delicious. It felt like it had been simmered thoroughly with plenty of ingredients. The noodles were nice and chewy too, and eating them together with the bossam kimchi was a match made in heaven..! I'd heard that adding an egg to the kalguksu broth and cooking it into a porridge with rice makes for a delicious finishing move, and I wanted to try it, but the portion was already so generous I couldn't manage it — I regret it now that I think back on it..! The broth was just that good!!

Final verdict: a 10,000 won bossam set, with a takeout discount

By the time I'd worked through both the bossam and the kalguksu, I was absolutely stuffed! Truly a generous, high-value restaurant! Bossam Ae Kalguksu Seongnam Sangdaewon Branch gives you complimentary kalguksu when you order the tender gabrisal bossam! Order the set and you can enjoy bossam, kalguksu, and rice all for just ₩10,000 — I really want to recommend this place to anyone looking for a filling, generous meal~
