Sharing Hangover and Mushroom burger sets in Daeheung-dong: Burgiz

In short

Burgiz Daeheung is a burger restaurant in Daeheung-dong, Jung-gu, Daejeon, near the Sungsimdang main store. We split the Hangover set (₩14,800) and the Mushroom set (₩14,300) for a combined ₩29,100 and tried both signature burgers side by side. It's an easy pick for a couple where one person wants a heavy burger and the other wants something with unusual toppings.

A handmade burger near Sungsimdang: Burgiz Daeheung

After a light walk near Sungsimdang, we wanted a proper handmade burger, so we headed to Burgiz Daeheung. This time we picked one Hangover set and one Mushroom set to share two different signatures. It turned out to be a great combo for a pair where one likes a heavy burger and the other is after something with distinctive toppings.

Walking route and location in Daeheung-dong

Burgiz Daeheung sits at 185-11 Daeheung-dong, Jung-gu, Daejeon. It's an easy stop after wandering Eunhaeng-dong, where the Sungsimdang main store is, together with Daeheung-dong, so we'd recommend it as a date-meal spot in Daejeon's old downtown. With cheese, bacon, avocado, chicken and veggie options alongside the handmade burgers as the main draw, there was plenty of choice to suit different tastes.

The name 'Burgiz' and the ingredients behind it

'Burgiz' is a shortened way of saying 'burger is,' and the place has been running as a burger house since 2017. True to its slogan, 'Original taste? Better!,' it aims for burgers that stay true to the basics while letting the ingredients work together. They use buttery buns and a 100% beef patty blended from several cuts, and some vegetables are sourced directly from farms for freshness, they say. The reinterpreted American-restaurant atmosphere and the in-store playlist added to the feeling of an exotic dining experience, which stood out to me too.

Hangover set ₩14,800 — hash brown and a soft egg

The Hangover set is ₩14,800. It's a beef patty topped with a crispy hash brown, a soft fried egg, bacon, and a spicy barbecue sauce. American cheese, grilled onion, lettuce and tomato go in too, so every bite layered several textures at once. Just like its name suggests, this is Burgiz's signature for anyone who wants a filling, heavy burger. The crunch of the hash brown and the softness of the egg played well with the salty bacon and barbecue sauce, keeping it satisfying to the very last bite.

Mushroom set ₩14,300 — fried cheese mushroom and wasabi sauce

The Mushroom set is ₩14,300, built on the same base of beef patty, American cheese, grilled onion, lettuce and tomato, but topped with mozzarella-stuffed fried mushroom and Burgiz's wasabi sauce. Unlike the Hangover, the nuttiness of the fried mushroom and the fresh kick of the wasabi sauce stood out, and splitting two such different burgers made the meal more fun. Mushroom is a signature alongside Hangover, which is exactly why we chose both on our first visit.

₩29,100 for two sets, split between two people

The two sets together came to ₩29,100. The Hangover was filling with its barbecue sauce and hash brown, while the Mushroom was a change of pace with its fried cheese mushroom, so we got a wider range of flavors than sticking to one burger would have given us. Picking a burger each and sharing let us compare tastes at a leisurely pace, and with the sets included, it made a fitting lunch or dinner for two. Alternating bites between the two kept the meal from feeling one-note, and we enjoyed it right to the end.
