Seongsu dessert café: 4 madeleine flavors compared at Notldun

In short

Notldun is a dessert café in Seongsu, Seoul, right near Seoul Forest, up on the second floor. I packed a salty caramel mille-feuille and four madeleines — vanilla, raspberry, pistachio and earl grey — to go and compared the flavors one by one. Notldun's showcase looks like a luxury boutique counter and the packaging is polished enough to hand over as a gift.

Antique-style exterior of Notldun

The luxe, antique-looking exterior caught my eye from far away, so I found it right away.

Salty caramel mille-feuille and 4 madeleines: taste comparison

The quality of the ingredients was so high that it was healing to eat, the whole way through.

Cross-section of Notldun's salty caramel mille-feuille

Salty caramel mille-feuille

Crisp, layered pastry stacked layer upon layer, packed full of luxurious sweet-and-salty caramel cream. The flaky, crackly texture of the thin pastry sheets is a genius moment, and paired with the soft, rich cream — the flavor burst in my mouth the second I took a bite, and it genuinely surprised me T_T. This is the real deal, straight to heaven 💕

Notldun's pistachio madeleine

Pistachio madeleine

One of my top pick candidates — the nuttiness explodes the more you chew! The subtle, upscale nuttiness of the real pistachio blends perfectly with the moist crumb, giving it a clean but lingering, addictive flavor.

Notldun's raspberry madeleine

Raspberry madeleine

If you're obsessed with tartness, you have to try this one! Instead of artificial syrupy sweetness, the bright, fresh raspberry fruit aroma hits you right away, so it's never cloying and stays clean and refreshing all the way through.

Notldun's earl grey madeleine

Earl grey madeleine

The moment you take a bite, the deep, fragrant black tea aroma spreads through your mouth. There's zero dryness — it's fluffy and moist, and pairs perfectly with a cold iced Americano. It's the most sophisticated flavor to pair with a home café tea time.

Notldun's vanilla madeleine with a plump belly

Vanilla madeleine

A madeleine with a plump little belly — take a bite and the outside is slightly crisp while the inside is pure moist. The vanilla bean specks give a rich, subtle flavor that spreads through, feeling classic yet deeply luxurious. Pair it with a cold iced Americano or a warm tea and you'll finish one off in no time. That classic, deep luxuriousness means it never gets old, and you just keep eating more.

When is Notldun worth a visit?
