In short

Sin Yeongung Cheonggukjang Haemulttukbaegi Seongseo Moda Outlet branch is a Korean restaurant near Moda Outlet in Dalseo, Daegu, serving a Boiling Seafood-style haemul-han-pan boiling (seafood boil). On a Saturday visit at 11:30 am the restaurant was already full, and the medium seafood boil at 49,000 won plus a 1,000 won bowl of rice fed two people to bursting, right down to the spaghetti noodles hidden under the shellfish. For buttery, spicy boiled seafood in Daegu, Sin Yeongung delivers.

I was originally planning to drive all the way to Cheonan just to get my boiling crab fix, but then I heard there's a place in Daegu that does boiling seafood too — jackpot! So here's my write-up of Sin Yeongung Cheonggukjang Haemulttukbaegi, Seongseo Moda Outlet branch!

Full house by 11:30 am on a Saturday

I visited on a Saturday at 11:30 am and — can you believe it was already full?! This place must really be good! All the seats are partitioned so you can eat comfortably, and as you can see in the photos, there are tons of tables!

Side dishes and the self-serve bar at Sin Yeongung

The side dishes were salad, ssamjang (seasoned soybean paste) with chili, braised fish cake, and seokbakji (radish kimchi) — a fresh salad, soft fish cake, crunchy seokbakji and chili, all served neatly like homemade banchan!

If you need more side dishes, you can refill them at the self-serve bar! The homemade seokbakji is especially good, so make sure to try it.

What the 49,000 won medium seafood boil tastes like

You order at the kiosk. I agonized between live abalone with seafood stew and the seafood boil, but ended up ordering the medium seafood boil, since it's hard to find in Daegu! Think of it as American-style seafood boil 👍

  • Rice ₩1,000

Here comes the full boil pan!! The visuals are no joke 🥹!!

When the food arrives, the staff kindly prep it right at the table, cutting the large seafood into just the right sizes so it was really easy to eat ❤️

Octopus, scallops, shrimp, crab, crab roe, mussels, squid, and more — 10 different kinds of seafood tossed in an exotic sauce 🔥 I went with mild spice, and it had a full buttery aroma with a spicy, addictive seasoning!

I was surprised the moment I saw the portion — the sauce here is the real kicker. It looks like haemuljjim (steamed seafood) but tastes completely different — a buttery base followed by an exotic, spicy seasoning that's seriously addictive!!

A mountain of piled-up seafood

It really looked like a mountain of seafood piled up, so many different kinds that I couldn't decide what to eat first 🤤

The plump octopus wasn't chewy at all — soft in the mouth yet with a satisfying bite, truly the best octopus 💛 The plump crab was packed with meat, and the sweet flesh paired with the seasoning was so savory!

Seasoned shrimp and scallops

I shelled the shrimp neatly, and dipped the scallops in the sauce too — both were plump and chewy with no fishy taste, so delicious!

Plump gonji and roe

Can you see the plump gonji (fish roe sac)!! Piling a spoonful of white rice with roe, gonji, and squid together, the sauce and seafood dance together in your mouth..

Corn, smile potatoes and the spaghetti noodles hidden underneath

Boiling seafood means corn, of course! The sauce soaked in perfectly, spicy and craveable! The soft smile potatoes were also a savory highlight.

Finishing off almost all the seafood isn't the end! There are spaghetti noodles hidden underneath, and the portion is seriously no joke!!💕

The sauce soaks perfectly into the roe, and slurping down noodles with roe-mixed spicy sauce and gonji on top is truly amazing.. Wait, why do the sauce and spaghetti noodles go together so well!

After the meal you can finish up neatly with coffee, which I thought was such a thoughtful touch! Starbucks beans, no wonder it tasted so good haha

Is the medium seafood boil enough for two people?

We ate it as two people, and even my friend who really eats a lot nearly burst — the portion is generous enough for three people easily. Next time I want to come with three and try the fried rice too :)

It's not easy to find a place serving boiling seafood in Daegu, and even though it was my first time trying it, I really enjoyed the meal — the sauce is addictive so I'll definitely come back again ❤️ Beyond the seafood boil, their signature cheonggukjang stew and seafood stew are also known for being hot, savory, and delicious, so I'd recommend them as meal options too! If you're looking for a good Korean restaurant near Daegu Moda Outlet, I highly recommend Sin Yeongung Cheonggukjang Haemulttukbaegi Moda Outlet branch 💕
