Songdo noodle restaurant, chogye guksu shared on Sunday: Eonyang Dak

Hi, it's Yungdungie! When the weather turns a bit chilly, or I just want something warm and filling, I crave kalguksu (knife-cut noodle soup) 🍜 This time I visited Eonyang Dak Kalguksu!

What Sunday lunch is like at Eonyang Dak Kalguksu Songdo

On my way to hang out in Songhyeon-dong, I suddenly craved chicken kalguksu after a while, so I stopped in! It's near an academy district and residential area, so there were quite a lot of customers for a Sunday lunch visit!

The jjimdak (braised chicken) looked really tasty too. But since we planned to eat a lot of snacks later, we ordered the basic chicken kalguksu and chogye guksu instead.

At the counter there were toothpicks and candy too. Such a nice touch from the owner, thinking of the after-meal freshen-up~

Bar seats for eating alone

The interior of Eonyang Dak Kalguksu Songdo was really spacious, and there was bar seating set up for people dining alone. I eat alone a lot these days too, so a place with bar seating feels so, so precious.

We ordered the signature chicken kalguksu first, and while I was debating ordering the same thing, I thought, let's have chogye guksu one last time before summer ends! So that's what I ordered.

Being a chicken kalguksu specialist, I was already excited just picking from the menu — we ordered chicken kalguksu and chogye guksu. Bottom line first: the portions were really generous, so one bowl alone was filling haha. I'll introduce it especially for anyone who loves kalguksu and wants to eat until full 😊

What's on the self-serve kimchi bar?

The self-serve bar at Eonyang Dak Kalguksu Songdo had regular kimchi, spicy kimchi, and pickled radish. You just scoop as much as you want.

My boyfriend loves spicy food, and he said he kept reaching for the spicy kimchi in particular! It was less spicy than silbi kimchi. He said he'd want to buy some if they sold it lol.

🥒 Chogye guksu: cold, tangy and refreshing

First up, the chogye guksu I ordered! If chicken kalguksu is a warm, mild-tasting dish, chogye guksu is the cool, tangy one 🥒🍜 Same chicken base, but a completely different mood — great to order both and share.

Dipping the noodles into the tangy, cool broth really woke up my appetite! Especially on a hot day, I feel like cool chogye guksu would hit harder than hot chicken kalguksu. It came with both chicken and noodles, so the portion wasn't small at all — one bowl alone was pretty filling.

🍗 Chicken kalguksu: rich, hot broth

Next up, my boyfriend's chicken kalguksu 🍜. It came in a big bowl generously packed with noodles and chicken, looking like a lot right from the start. The noodles were chewy yet soft, great for slurping down with the broth, and having chicken in there too made it much more filling than kalguksu with just noodles. Best of all — the portion was really generous!

The bowl itself was so hearty that at first I thought, "can we really finish all this?" — but as we kept eating the warm broth and noodles, I couldn't put the chopsticks down 😂 With the chicken on top, it was more than enough for a full meal. Especially good for anyone who wants to fill up on just one bowl of kalguksu.

Pairing it with the kimchi from the self-serve bar was the icing on the cake~

For two: one chicken kalguksu and one chogye guksu

The biggest upside of ordering chicken kalguksu and chogye guksu together was, again, the generous portions. Sometimes noodle dishes at restaurants these days leave you a bit wanting, but at Eonyang Dak Kalguksu Songdo, each bowl on its own was generous enough that we didn't feel empty after eating. With chicken mixed in, it was noticeably more filling than noodles alone.

If you're visiting as a pair, I'd recommend ordering one chicken kalguksu and one chogye guksu like we did, and sharing between the two different dishes. Being able to enjoy warm broth and cool noodles in one sitting made me feel like we chose well 😋

💛 When you want a meal that fills you up

True to its name, Eonyang Dak Kalguksu centers its menu around chicken-based kalguksu, so it suits anyone who loves chicken kalguksu. We had both the chicken kalguksu and chogye guksu, and both came in generous portions that left us really full. The kalguksu was hearty with warm broth, chewy noodles and chicken all together, while the chogye guksu was tangy and cool, so alternating between the two kept things from getting boring.

Above all, if you're looking for a noodle place with big portions, this one's worth keeping in mind 😊 Eonyang Dak Kalguksu was a good spot to fill up for lunch or dinner, and nice to visit with family or friends and share different dishes. Next time, I'd like to try the jjimdak and boiled pork too 🐓🍜
