Movie Photo Book Jeonpo Times is a 24-hour unmanned self-photo studio in Jeonpo-dong, Busanjin-gu, Busan. At Jeonpo Times I shot both a flip book (8,000 won per book) and an A3 color newspaper photo (1+1 for 7,000 won), plus the free receipt photo zone. If four-cut photo booths feel stale, Jeonpo Times is worth adding to a Jeonpo-dong date course.
Kkomang Unmanned Kids Cafe is an unstaffed, rental-only kids café on the 4th floor near Kyungsung University–Pukyong National University Station in Daeyeon-dong, Nam-gu, Busan. Two families booked the whole space together, so the children played on the trampoline, slide and fishing zone while the mothers took turns on the Ceragem massage chair inside for an hour each. Rentals start at 13,000 won per 30 minutes on weekday mornings with no limit on the number of guests, which suits playgroup meetups and birthday parties.
Myeonsikdang Pukyong National University Branch is a ramen and tonkatsu restaurant in Daeyeon-dong, Nam-gu, Busan, a 5-minute walk from Kyungsung University·Pukyong National University Station. Lunch with two children came to 44,500 won for mozzarella cheese katsu, Sanuki fish cake udon, demi-glace pork loin katsu, tonkotsu ramen with a mini spicy pork rice bowl and a potato croquette, and the clean udon broth was the kids' favourite. With a menu this wide, Myeonsikdang is an easy choice for a family lunch with young children.
Choryang Hyeongje Galbi is a pork rib restaurant in the Choryang galbi alley of Dong-gu, Busan, known for serving jangnoesam (cultivated wild ginseng) free with every table. Arriving at 7:30pm on a weekend, two diners shared 3 servings of domestic raw pork ribs and 2 servings of seasoned pork ribs at 12,000 won each, plus a 3,000 won doenjang jjigae (soybean paste stew), with staff grilling the meat at the table. Between the ginseng, kimchi pancake and steamed egg, the free spread at Choryang Hyeongje Galbi is what makes the meal memorable.
Ppong Sashimi is a Japanese course restaurant with room seating in Jungang-dong, Jung-gu, Busan, near Nampo-dong and 400m from Busan Station. The assorted sashimi set for two (₩60,000 per person) runs from side dishes, tuna yukhoe (raw beef), abalone porridge and seaweed soup to mixed seafood, sushi, flame-grilled cold pork, red sea bream, flounder and salmon sashimi, cheese-topped grilled abalone, shrimp and clams, grilled fish, fried shrimp, a Japanese soup, and clear jiri fish soup with roe rice. Ppong Sashimi goes well beyond sashimi alone, making it a good choice for a day you want to treat someone properly.
Craft Hans Seomyeon Branch is a craft beer pub on the second floor of a building in central Seomyeon, Busan. Four people ate their fill of pilsner, weizen, dark and pale draft beers with Hans Crispy Chicken — 20,900 won for a whole chicken, discounted to 15,900 won, with half-chicken orders available — plus a thin-crust pepperoni pizza. Between the wood-tone interior and the beam projector, Craft Hans Seomyeon Branch works well for a big group night out or a date in Seomyeon.
Hohobak is a handmade injeolmi (chewy rice cake) shop in Hadan, Saha-gu, Busan, specializing in boxed rice cakes for return gifts. Three kinds — pumpkin injeolmi with rice castella, mugwort injeolmi with mugwort castella, and black sesame castella injeolmi — were picked up in medium and small boxes, and the mugwort had the deepest, best aroma. Hohobak is worth recommending for return gifts or holiday presents.
Misikga-ui Udon Daeyeon Direct Branch is a tonkatsu, udon and panmemil (cold buckwheat noodles) restaurant right outside Exit 6 of Daeyeon Station in Nam-gu, Busan. Ordering the jumbo panmemil set and the combo udon set together filled one table with thick tonkatsu, chilled panmemil, warm tempura udon, curry and salad. For a Daeyeon Station lunch where you want cold and warm noodles at the same time, these two sets are worth recommending.
Bisyoku Gwangan Branch is a Japanese-style yakiniku restaurant near Suyeongman Bay Park in Gwangalli, Busan. The Oishi Set (400g) — 300g of premium sirloin plus 100g of top loin — costs 99,000 won, and staff grill the first piece for you while indoor snow falls at set times through the evening. Bisyoku Gwangan Branch is the pick in Gwangalli when you want atmosphere and beef quality in one visit.
Sanbandeul Pork Gukbap is a pork soup (gukbap) restaurant on Jeonpo Café Street in Seomyeon, Busan, officially listed as a good-value business. Visiting with a child who wanted noodles, the writer ordered the bibim milmyeon (spicy cold mixed wheat noodles) and king dumpling set for 10,900 won and the spicy pork gukbap stage 1 for 8,900 won; the milmyeon was mild enough for the child, and the gukbap broth was rich and smoky like Japanese ramen. Sanbandeul Pork Gukbap is an easy, filling meal to share with a kid in Jeonpo-dong.
Daeun Namcheon-dong Main Branch is an izakaya in Namcheon-dong, Suyeong, Busan, where the signature order is the Daeun Seasonal Course, a set menu that brings sashimi, hot pot and fried dishes to one table. Two people ordered the course at ₩50,000 per person (₩100,000 total) and were served abalone porridge, caprese salad, salmon jang (soy-marinated salmon), hoe-muchim (spicy sashimi salad), seasonal sashimi, flower hot pot shabu, shrimp tempura and maki, one dish after another. For the price, the Daeun Seasonal Course is a generous, well-paced sashimi course in Namcheon-dong.
Suraban Seomyeon is a Chinese restaurant on Seomyeonmunhwa-ro in Busanjin-gu, Busan, near Bujeon Station and Yeongkwang Bookstore. The solo tray jjajangmyeon (black bean noodles) costs 10,000 won and can be ordered by one person, while the sticky rice tangsuyuk (sweet and sour pork), medium for 3, costs 26,000 won, both cooked to order with a strong smoky wok flavor. With unlimited rice and coffee and a room that seats up to 20, Suraban Seomyeon works just as well for a solo lunch as for a group dinner.
