Arriving just after the lunch rush, the writer ordered a bossam (boiled pork) set and mandu kalguksu, and found barley rice and wrap greens on unlimited refill plus three jumbo dumplings in one large bowl. Yun Ujae Shabu Kalguksu Gogidong Branch is a Korean restaurant in Gogi-dong, Suji-gu, Yongin, Gyeonggi, where one order brings sirloin shabu-shabu, kalguksu (knife-cut noodles) and fried rice. A CatchTable remote wait placed at 12:16 pm gave 12th place in line, but the real wait after arriving at Yun Ujae was under 5 minutes, and the dipping sauce was served half with one hot green chili mixed in, half plain. Dalgom's is a takeout dakgangjeong (Korean sweet crispy fried chicken) shop inside Jeil Market in Uijeongbu, Gyeonggi. Ahead of Chuseok, with the market packed and a wait to order, this visit picked up the 1.5-chicken set in three flavors — garlic soy, sweet, and spicy garlic — plus fried rice cakes, and the chicken came out crisp outside, juicy inside, with a good balance across the three. Portions at Dalgom's are generous in true market style, making it an easy pick for sharing with family.
Gyeoretsu Ramen Bucheon University Branch is a Japanese ramen restaurant near Bucheon Station and Bucheon University in Gyeonggi. On a late weekend lunch the writer ate alone, ordering karai iekei ramen for 10,500 won with an added ajitama (marinated soft-boiled egg) and oolong tea, and the thick curly futomen noodles, thin chashu and cooked spinach made a memorable bowl. The oolong tea cleared the palate between bites, and Gyeoretsu Ramen is worth a return visit with the saltiness set to mild.
Min Cook Dasima is a Japanese restaurant near Hwajeong Station in Goyang, Gyeonggi, in the same spot since 2001 and named a Hundred-Year Store in 2024. On a weekday lunch, a couple ordered the lunch special premium sushi set (9 pieces of sushi plus salmon sashimi) and the grilled black cod set and shared both, with the pre-meal porridge and the sweet pumpkin fritter standing out. The light sushi set paired with the filling grilled black cod set was just right for two people.

Haenggung Jangjak Hanbang Tongdak is a wood-fired whole chicken restaurant on Haenggung-ro in Paldal-gu, Suwon. The herbal wood-fired whole chicken costs 23,000 won and a 1,000cc draft beer 8,000 won, and the takeout order came with pickled radish and carrot, two sauces and salt, which made the packaging quality feel generous. The skin is crisp, the meat stays juicy and a faint herbal aroma lingers, so Haenggung Jangjak is an easy chicken-and-beer takeout after a walk around Haenggung.
Waltz and Dr. Mahn is a large café in Joan-myeon, Namyangju, Gyeonggi, sitting right on the Bukhan River and running its own coffee museum. On a weekday afternoon the writer looked around the window seats and outdoor terrace at Waltz and Dr. Mahn and ordered opera cake and blueberry cheesecake with Vienna coffee and Café Royale. Between the wide private parking lot and the formal table service, Waltz and Dr. Mahn is worth a drive out of Seoul.
Gyuen-dang Avenue France Gwanggyo Branch is a gyukatsu (breaded beef cutlet) restaurant in the Attijone wing of Avenue France in Gwanggyo, Suwon, Gyeonggi. Remembering how good the sirloin gyukatsu tasted on a first visit, the writer came back and ordered two sirloin gyukatsu, melting butter on the personal tabletop grill to sear each slice and topping it with wasabi. With 4 hours of parking support in the Avenue France building, this repeat visit to Gyuen-dang was easy to reach by car.
