Why bossam for Sunday lunch in Dongin-dong, Daegu?

It was a Sunday lunch — I'd gone over to my friend Jung-i's place in Dongin-dong, and we decided to head out for lunch. While looking around for what to eat, we landed on bossam (boiled pork wrap). I'm not a huge fan of waiting, so even though we weren't that hungry yet, we headed out a bit early haha~^^

The bossam place we found, Uldong Bossam, was right in the block next to Daegu City Hall's Dongin Annex. We got there before noon — success! Arriving before 12 meant we got seated with no wait at all. Popular restaurants really are easier if you move a bit early. If you're like me and hate waiting, arriving slightly early is the way to go.

How fast does the bossam set arrive at lunchtime?

At the entrance there was a sign saying "Lunch available too," which made me think this might be a place that gets more dinner customers.

Given how bossam usually works, I figured we'd have to wait a while for the food to come out. But. No. Need. To. Worry. Uldong Bossam's meal prep was incredibly fast.

What did we order? The moment Jung-i saw the menu, she had this look on her face like she'd struck gold, saying she could totally come here alone whenever she's craving bossam haha. We ordered the solo bossam set with extra meat, two servings — and honestly, I loved that a bossam place had a solo-dining menu option. Not long after ordering, the bossam set arrived — ta-da~

Warm rice! Hot stew! I just love this stuff so~~ much. Soup and stew really need that piping-hot factor. It's like tasting the food with your eyes before you even pick up the spoon lol

Grinding your own nutty sesame soy sauce at the table

As the staff instructed when serving the food, we ground the roasted sesame seeds ourselves into powder, then drizzled on the soy sauce set on the table to make sesame soy sauce. A nutty meat sauce, completed. Seeing the bubbling doenjang stew already felt like a tasty first bite with the eyes, but making the sesame soy sauce myself and getting that nutty aroma felt like tasting it all over again. So really, I'd already "tasted" the meal twice before even eating the meat. Haha.

Tender, mild pork belly and hangjeongsal boiled pork

Now for the main event — the bossam itself. I piled minari (water celery) salad, radish salad, and salted shrimp onto the rice, dipped a slice of hangjeongsal in the sesame soy sauce, wrapped it up gently, and popped it in — one bite.

Perfect for a solid lunch~ It had been a long while since I'd had pork this soft and clean-tasting. The solo bossam's boiled pork was pork belly and hangjeongsal. It was fun mixing things up — pairing the tender pork with side dishes, dipping it in the sesame soy sauce, or trying it with doenjang or salted shrimp depending on my mood. A properly filling lunch.

Uldong Bossam for solo meals and evening get-togethers

If the pork's rich flavor has you craving a drink, come back in the evening^^ Warm rice! Hot soup! Deep, sweet soy sauce flavor! Uldong Bossam is great for solo dining and lunch, but it also looked like a solid pick for a drink with bossam in the evening, or for work dinners and group gatherings. If a drink-lover happens to stop by for lunch, it might be tough to hold back from ordering just one glass. If you're hunting for Daegu bossam, Dongin-dong bossam, or a Gyodong/Dongseong-ro restaurant recommendation, Uldong Bossam is worth a visit.

Finishing with self-serve plum tea

Found a self-serve plum tea station~ After finishing the pork, the plum tea caught my eye. A glass of that after a meal really cleanses the palate — so satisfying.

Uldong Bossam has a solo bossam menu, so you can eat a filling meal even by yourself, and thanks to the fast prep, you can enjoy a delicious, stress-free lunch even on a time crunch — a genuinely great-value restaurant. If you're around Gyodong or Dongseong-ro and thinking "I want bossam today," it's worth a visit.

Uldong Bossam hasn't been open that long, and the interior was clean and really comfortable. Had a solid, satisfying lunch.

Solo dining OK. Lunch OK. Dinner/company dinners GOOD. It's so tasty that next time I visit, I'll definitely order the potato pancake too. Anyway, today's lunch was really nice.
