Suwon bakery café for walnut pie: Café Meomureum

In short

Café Meomureum is a spacious, quiet bakery café in Jeongja-dong, Suwon, Gyeonggi. I tried an iced Americano, iced lemon tea, a chocolate mochi doughnut, and walnut pie, and checked out its reservable study rooms and children’s amenities. A lovely place to settle in, as long as the stairs are manageable.

Café Meomureum directions on the second floor of Dongsin General Shopping Center
Café Meomureum is on the second floor of Dongsin General Shopping Center—follow the arrow upstairs.

You have to take the stairs up to the second floor of the shopping center! Just keep in mind that there is no elevator :)! Since I’m pregnant and feeling a bit heavy, climbing the stairs was a little tough... But the moment I opened the door to Café Meomureum, the smell of freshly baked bread came rushing out! I thought it would be a small café from the outside, but the interior was incredibly spacious and pleasant, which I loved.

What Are the Spacious Seats and Study Rooms Like?

Interior seating area at Café Meomureum
Wood-toned booth seating and decorations

Inside, white tiles and wood-toned booth seating come together, while Tiffany lamps and artworks with all sorts of images hanging around make it feel like a little gallery! Even on a weekday afternoon, seats filled up quickly—it really was the kind of space that makes you want to stay awhile :)!

Group reservation space inside the café

Further inside was a roomy area set up like a study space, and it looked perfect for people coming alone to study. There was also a space farther in that would be great for birthday parties, and since you can rent it out, it seemed like a lovely spot for children’s birthday parties or gatherings too!

Several baby high chairs are ready on one side of the café, along with coloring sheets and colored pencils for children! If you’re looking for a café to visit with kids in Jeongja-dong, this could be a useful one to keep in mind. Pets aren’t allowed, though...!

Café Meomureum’s Menu and the Drinks and Breads We Ordered

Coffee and baked-goods menu
There was a wide selection, from coffee and non-coffee drinks to tea and baked goods.

There were lots of baked goods, including salt bread, garlic bread, and Basque cheesecake, while apple pie and egg tarts were displayed separately on the counter. Such a perfect café for a bread lover! We picked out drinks and two kinds of baked treats!

Ordered drinks and baked treats
Americano, lemon tea, doughnut, and walnut pie
We ordered an iced Americano, lemon tea, a chocolate mochi doughnut, and walnut pie.

The chocolate mochi doughnut had a texture similar to Dunkin’s version, but it was less sweet, so it was easy to enjoy without feeling overwhelmed.

Chocolate mochi doughnut and drinks
Lemon tea and dessert
  • Iced Americano ₩4,000 — It had an easy-to-drink strength, and I liked that it wasn’t acidic!
  • Iced lemon tea ₩5,500 — Sweet and tangy, so it went nicely with sweet desserts.
  • Chocolate mochi doughnut ₩2,500 — The texture was similar to Dunkin’s version but less sweet, so I kept reaching for it.
  • Walnut pie ₩3,900 — It was generously filled with large walnuts for the price, so I think people who love nuts would especially enjoy it.

Overall Thoughts on a Weekday Afternoon Visit

There was no wait, but seeing seats fill up quickly even on a weekday afternoon, it definitely seemed like a popular spot! The owner was kind too, so it had that feeling of being a neighborhood place people talk about? The seating is comfortable, so there’s no pressure about sitting for a long time! Still, it was a shame that the shopping-center building is old and you can only go up the stairs, without an elevator. If you’re pregnant or bringing a stroller, it would be good to keep that in mind beforehand. It was a bakery café with great baked goods and lots of space that I really liked for the first time in a while :)!
