Gongdeok café matcha madeleines and melon financiers to go: Fluffy

In short

Fluffy Bake Shop is a baked-goods café in Mapo, Seoul, 148m from Exit 2 of Gongdeok Station. Two salt breads, matcha and Earl Grey madeleines, and vanilla, almond and melon financiers were packed to go, with the matcha madeleine eaten on the street and the salt bread at home. The matcha layer had a chewy bite, the madeleine crumb stayed moist, and the salt bread kept its crisp-outside, chewy-inside texture — a bake shop that delivers on both fronts.

Dessert shot at Fluffy Bake Shop near Gongdeok Station

Fluffy Bake Shop, a favorite café near Gongdeok Station. I'm a dessert fanatic, but baked goods (gubungwaja) are what I love most — that crisp-outside, moist-inside bite feels like true happiness to me.

So of course I had to visit the bake shop famous for exactly that kind of happiness — Fluffy Bake Shop, a dessert spot known near Gongdeok Station! As a place known for its baked goods, I had a wonderful time enjoying not just the financiers and madeleines but also the salt bread. Let's get into the review!

As a café known for baked goods near Gongdeok Station, they had their signature desserts listed out — castella, madeleines, financiers, crème brûlée, canelés. Wow, every single one is exactly my type of dessert.

Eat-in seating by the window

Is there seating to eat in?

You can take everything to go, but there's also a small cozy eat-in space if you want to enjoy your baked goods on the spot. It looked really nice to sit by the sunny window and watch the street while eating.

Postcards and small items displayed in the store

Cute Shin-chan goods and postcards caught my eye in front of the bread tongs. Honestly, buying bread when I'm feeling down always cheers me up... when I'm blue, sweet baked goods genuinely comfort me more than meat, for what it's worth.

I noticed they only use Lescure Charentes-Poitou AOP butter.

Menu board of coffee, tea, and non-dairy drinks

Being a café, they also had a variety of coffee, tea, and non-dairy milk drinks. There's a ₩1,000 discount for takeout, so keep that in mind if you're packing to go.

The egg tarts and colorful madeleines looked so tempting just to look at, so pretty.

Madeleines arranged by type

There were so many kinds of madeleines that they didn't even fit in one shot — hard to decide what to pick!

A varied display of financiers

The financier lineup was really varied too, and the gamtae (seaweed) financier that appeared on the TV show Nolto seems to be the signature item!

And finally, the crisp-outside, moist-inside salt bread I love! It genuinely looked crispy on the outside — the inside was a surprise for later. I picked out a generous haul.

Sign explaining how to store baked goods

How should you store the baked goods?

I got everything to go, and apparently they keep for 2–3 days in a cool place, or up to 2 weeks sealed and frozen. But of course, the unchanging truth is that everything tastes best eaten fresh, the same day you buy it!

Paper bag with stickers on it

They packed everything in a pretty paper bag with cute stickers.

Individually wrapped baked goods

The nutty aroma was too tempting, so I couldn't resist pulling one out to eat on the street (street-bread-ing?). Each piece was so beautifully individually wrapped, it was almost touching.

Matcha madeleine and salt bread taste

Worried the matcha madeleine might melt in the hot weather, I ate it first. The matcha coating had a satisfying chewy bite with a sweet-bitter balance, and the madeleine itself was so moist with just the right texture melting away on my tongue — truly a delicious madeleine.

Salt bread eaten at home

The salt bread I ate at home was also crisp outside, moist inside, with a nice layered texture — a properly tasty salt bread. I'm really looking forward to trying the other breads too, they were all wonderfully done. Thanks for the delicious food!

That was my visit to Fluffy Bake Shop near Gongdeok Station. Both the baked goods and the salt bread were excellent, and since it's close to Gongdeok Station with proper baked goods plus coffee and tea, I'd recommend it as a great date spot in the Gongdeok area.
