How to find Caffeine Focus, the three-story building by the fortress wall

Caffeine Focus's exterior is a 3-story building right in front of the fortress wall, so it stands out easily. Walking from Haenggung-dong toward Hwaseong Fortress, it wasn't as hard to find as I expected.

With the fortress wall right in front, the surrounding scenery caught my eye even before I stepped inside. It felt like a better fit as a stop along a fortress-wall walk than a destination on its own.

Which floor is best for laptop work? Floors 1 to 3 at Caffeine Focus

Caffeine Focus uses all three floors, so there's fun in picking a spot, and the view was a little different on each floor.

Overall the table spacing wasn't cramped, and the vibe felt fine for quietly setting up a laptop, so it looked good for anyone looking for a study café. On the 2nd floor you can see the fortress wall through the window, and the view opens up more as you go up.

If you're looking for a Hwaseong-Fortress-view café, I'd recommend the 3rd-floor window seats! After only ever seeing the fortress wall from outside, seeing it from inside the café was so picture-like and pretty 🥰

There are also outdoor tables, so on a nice day it would be great to sit outside with a coffee.

Caffeine Focus menu and how to order

There's a range of drinks from coffee to lattes, ades, and smoothies, plus house-made ciabatta, sandwiches, scones, and cheesecake.

This time I also ordered something simple to eat.

• Ciabatta sandwich: ₩14,000

That's what I went with! There are several kinds of ciabatta, so if you love bread you'll probably spend a while deciding here.

How do the iced café latte and ciabatta sandwich taste?

Honestly, it's pretty no matter where you shoot ㅠㅠ I didn't expect the fortress view to be this lovely.

The iced café latte. Even the glass had its own café-y charm. Tasting it, the coffee flavor wasn't buried by the milk — nutty and full! The ice didn't melt too fast either, which I liked.

It leaned more toward letting the bean flavor come through rather than being heavily sweet, so it paired well with the sandwich.

The ciabatta sandwich is made with basil pesto, tomato, arugula, jambon (ham), and mozzarella cheese between the bread.

The ingredients weren't bunched to one side but spread generously and evenly, so the cross-section looked so pretty when I cut it in half.

First off, the bread itself was so good! Soft on the outside with a chewy bite inside, and with the arugula's aroma and the tomato's moisture, it ate light and clean overall rather than heavy.

The jambon and cheese gave it a salty note, and the basil pesto added aroma in the middle so it never felt bland.

Personally, if you prefer bread you can eat as a meal rather than a sweet bakery item, this would suit you well.

Overall verdict and one drawback at Caffeine Focus

I stopped in while looking for a café in Haenggung-dong, and between the gorgeous fortress view and the tasty dessert, it was a great place to take a break.

The ciabatta was softer and chewier than I expected, so after the sandwich I got curious about the other bread varieties too. The latte had a nice bean aroma that paired well with the bread.

With seating across 3 floors and a Hwaseong Fortress view from the window seats, I'd strongly recommend it if you're looking for a Haenggung-dong café where you also want a great view.

Would I go back? ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

The one drawback is that the walk there is a bit uphill ㅠㅠ
