Gimhae Yulha lunch spot: tablet ordering, free rice, Seosan Dongjuk

In short

Seosan Dongjuk Kalguksu is a Korean restaurant on Deokjeong-ro in Yulha, Gimhae, specializing in clam noodle soup. The clam kalguksu (₩9,000) made with fresh clams delivered every morning and the onaksae seafood pancake (₩15,000) were both excellent, and the tablet ordering system plus free self-serve rice made the whole meal convenient. A 200% return-visit spot for anyone craving a cool, savory soup at lunchtime.

Today I'm bringing you a review of a lunch spot I strongly recommend in Yulha, Gimhae: Seosan Dongjuk Kalguksu (서산동죽칼국수). They make the broth every morning with fresh live clams, so the soup is deep and refreshing, and the crispy seafood pancake was perfect too.

The vibe inside and the tablet ordering system

Stepping inside, I noticed the bright wood-toned interior was clean and spacious. Everything felt very hygienic overall, which put me in a good mood even before the food arrived.

Tablet ordering device installed at the table

Every table had a modern tablet for ordering, so I could browse through menu photos and descriptions at my own pace and order comfortably. These days, places with a good ordering system like this just feel so much more convenient.

After ordering, I checked out the self-serve bar set up on one side of the restaurant. It too was spotlessly maintained, no complaints there.

Kimchi and kkakdugi

It's not an exaggeration to say the kimchi is the heart of any good kalguksu (knife-cut noodle soup) place, right? The spicy, crunchy baechu kimchi that seemed freshly made every day, and the well-fermented, savory kkakdugi (cubed radish kimchi), were both works of art. The perfect pairing for the noodles.

Onaksae seafood pancake, ₩15,000

Onaksae Seafood Pancake (₩15,000) — packed generously with squid, octopus, and shrimp, crispy all the way through.

The first dish to arrive was the onaksae seafood pancake! True to its name, it was loaded with fresh seafood — squid, octopus, shrimp — without holding back, and the visual alone was overwhelming.

Seafood pancakes usually get soggy in the middle, but this one stayed crispy from edge to center all the way through, and I ate every bite happily. Each chew brought together the springy seafood and the savory scallion flavor — it's such a magically addictive side dish that I devoured it before the noodles even arrived. If you visit, definitely order the pancake alongside!

Dongjuk kalguksu served in a large bowl

Dongjuk kalguksu, ₩9,000 — how was the broth?

Dongjuk Kalguksu (₩9,000) — noodle soup simmered deep and refreshing with fresh clams cleaned every morning. Next came the main dish, served in a bowl the size of a washbasin. The sheer size!

They apparently clean and cook fresh live clams delivered every single morning, and I could tell — the moment I took the first spoonful of broth, a deep, refreshing seafood umami spread through my mouth. There was no fishy shellfish taste at all, just a clean yet rich broth that felt like it cleared out my insides.

The noodles were so chewy too — picking the clam meat out one by one and eating it with the noodles was a great texture combo, very enjoyable to eat. Clams kept turning up from the bottom of the bowl, and the shells piled up so high, the portion was genuinely generous.

Free rice, and finishing it off like a soup

Another point that made Seosan Dongjuk Kalguksu stand out — the rice is free! You can grab as much as you want from the self-serve corner. After finishing all the noodles, spooning some rice into the rich clam broth and topping it with a piece of crunchy baechu kimchi made for the perfect finish. It's the kind of broth where you'd hate to waste a single drop, so being able to mix rice into it meant I left completely full and satisfied.

Final verdict

Deep, honest clam kalguksu made with care from honest ingredients, seafood pancake that's crispy to the end, plus friendly service and free rice on top! On every level, this was a Gimhae Yulha spot I'd return to with 200% certainty. If you're stuck on what to eat for lunch in Gimhae Yulha, or craving a hot, refreshing soup, I strongly recommend stopping by Seosan Dongjuk Kalguksu. 💚
