Hi, this is Muldeogi, who loves hunting down good restaurants. The day I stopped by Lotte Department Store Gwangbok after work, I was trying to decide what to eat and sushi came to mind.

There are several sushi places both in the basement and in the food court, but since I think quality really matters for sushi, I headed to Moshi Moshi, a Nampo-dong favorite that only operates directly-managed stores, at the Lotte Gwangbok branch.

Where is Moshi Moshi Sushi Lotte Gwangbok, and what are its hours?

Moshi Moshi is a Nampo-dong Japanese restaurant built on the know-how of a 20-year veteran chef who worked at a famous sushi restaurant in Tokyo.

True to a department store tenant, the interior was very pleasant and upscale.

You order via tablet. There's a wide range of assorted sushi combos, and the set menus in particular looked really substantial.

What comes in set no. 4 "Better" and how much is it?

We ordered set no. 4 as the 'better' version. Set no. 4 comes with 18 pieces of sushi, 9 shrimp tempura, and a choice of one noodle dish, and the 'better' option upgrades the toppings on the sushi. The 'better' version costs ₩71,900.

The restaurant also sells cold draft beer, but since we drove, we didn't drink.

I came looking for good sushi at Lotte Department Store Gwangbok, and the variety of meal compositions made it easy to choose.

Table set with basic side dishes

First came soft tofu with sesame sauce and a salad. The soft tofu with sesame sauce especially was nutty and sweet — really delicious.

Full spread of set no. 4 laid out on the table

Soon a table full of dishes was laid out. The sushi is made to order right when you place it, and it came out remarkably fast. Let me introduce each part of this Nampo-dong Japanese set no. 4 spread.

Nine crisp, plump shrimp tempura

A generous pile of 9 shrimp tempura pieces

A mountain of crispy shrimp tempura arrived. Each shrimp's batter stayed crunchy, and the shrimp meat itself was plump and full, so it wasn't just thick batter with little inside. The snappy texture of the shrimp was great.

The dedicated tempura dipping sauce that came with it was so savory you could dunk the pieces all the way in.

Long, thick neta on the 18-piece sushi

18 pieces of upgraded sushi with long, thick neta

The 'better' sushi in set no. 4 included halibut, engawa, salmon, tuna, shrimp, abalone, eel, beef, seared salmon (with sauce), and yukhoe (seasoned raw beef) inari sushi. It definitely felt like an upgraded, more premium lineup.

Moshi Moshi's signature is long, thick neta! Getting a full mouthful in one bite is the best part. The well-aged fish was also satisfyingly savory and tender.

The sushi I enjoyed most that day was the engawa nigiri. It had a small score cut into it, making it easy to chew, and each bite carried that rich engawa flavor.

My boyfriend said the eel nigiri was really delicious. The set's lineup was so good we enjoyed all of it, haha.

Soba and wasabi to go with the sushi

A bowl of soba chosen as the noodle option

I was craving soba (buckwheat noodles) that day, so I chose it among the noodle options. The soba wasn't too salty and had a mild, plain flavor, so it didn't compete with the sushi's savoriness, and the noodles slid down smoothly.

Wasabi served alongside the sushi

Best of all, the wasabi wasn't overly spicy. I've heard that good wasabi is defined less by heat than by a sharp aroma and a bit of sweetness, and Moshi Moshi's wasabi hit exactly that note. Even the wasabi tasted good, and I ended up having a full, satisfying meal.

Sushi plate paired with house-made sauces

I think part of why the whole spread was so satisfying is that Moshi Moshi makes most of its sauces in-house. Each one had a deep, rich flavor.

Is set no. 4 enough for an after-work dinner?

The sushi was so fresh and delicious that we cleaned every single plate. It was a casual sushi meal stopped into after work in Nampo-dong, Busan, but sampling the whole set at this Nampo-dong Japanese restaurant, Moshi Moshi Lotte Gwangbok, made for a very satisfying meal.

With sushi that stood out for its long, thick neta, plus 9 pieces of crispy shrimp tempura and soba, this Nampo Japanese sushi specialist let us enjoy a varied spread at the table. If you're looking for a clean meal inside a department store, keep this one in mind.
