Daegu sushi restaurant for katsu and kimchi nabe udon: Sushi Naru
In short
Sushi Naru Yeongdae Hospital Main Branch is a Japanese restaurant near Yeongdae Hospital in Nam-gu, Daegu. At lunch peak time, I had assorted sushi with pork tenderloin katsu for 22,000 won and kimchi nabe udon for 8,000 won. Verdict: pair the crisp katsu with the pleasantly spicy kimchi broth.

Location and parking at Sushi Naru Yeongdae Hospital Main Branch
Sushi Naru is near Yeongdae Hospital. There is no private parking lot, so you’ll need to park separately at a nearby paid street public lot or in an alley. IM Bank right next door allows parking after 4 PM. It’s within a five-minute walk of Yeongdae Hospital Station, so public transit may be more convenient.

Lunch-hour atmosphere and seating
When I first walked into Sushi Naru, it was right in the middle of lunch and there was barely room to step inside. By the time I finished eating, lots of customers had left, so I finally managed to get some photos.

Prepared ingredients are kept above the sushi counter, ready for the sushi-making to begin as soon as an order comes in.

The counter seating feels like being at a sushi restaurant in Japan. While you eat, you can watch every step of the sushi preparation beyond the open kitchen, which gives it a little Japan-trip feeling. Above all, the whole cooking process was so clean that I could relax.

There are window seats for eating alone too, so coming by yourself doesn’t feel awkward.

There are also about four to five tables for four. It’s a compact space, but the layout doesn’t get in the way and it can fit quite a few guests.

Each table is set with utensils, soy sauce, napkins, and small sauce bowls.

Food wait time at peak hours
Sushi Naru prepares fish to order for freshness and also handles takeout and delivery, so visiting at peak time can take a while. Still, even though I came right in the middle of lunch, the food arrived in about 15 minutes.

Assorted sushi and pork tenderloin katsu set
The assorted sushi and pork tenderloin katsu set normally comes with mini udon as a side, but since I ordered kimchi nabe udon, they switched it to a croquette for me. ❤️

The assorted sushi came with a good mix of favorites: tuna, salmon, flounder, shrimp, egg, and more.

Can you see how thick the fish is on the sushi? The softness and pleasant chew of aged fish spread through my mouth, and there wasn’t even a hint of fishiness—I was impressed. The salmon was especially rich and nutty, while the fresh raw shrimp still had that lovely springy bite. It just melts in your mouth.

Crisp katsu with kimchi nabe udon
The pork tenderloin katsu had a seriously crisp crust.

It makes that shatteringly crisp sound the second you bite it—instant ASMR. It’s great dipped in the katsu sauce served alongside, but I also recommend soaking it in the kimchi nabe udon broth. The pleasantly spicy flavor seeps right through it.

The curry croquette was nice and hot, and delicious too.

Here comes the spicy kimchi nabe udon!

The savory kimchi broth had soaked into the udon noodles, and the more I ate, the more it felt like my stomach was filling with warmth. It wasn’t overwhelming even for someone who can’t handle much spice—just pleasantly spicy and easy to enjoy.
If you’re looking for great sushi around Daemyeong-dong in Daegu, I recommend Sushi Naru Yeongdae Hospital Main Branch. You can enjoy softly aged-fish sushi prepared with care, crisp katsu, and pleasantly spicy kimchi nabe udon.
