Night dessert gelato shop in Misa, Hanam: Jeju lemon and nectarine
In short
Damgeum Gelato Misa Branch is an authentic Italian handmade gelato shop inside Mono Lounge on Misagangbyeon Hangang-ro in Hanam, Gyeonggi. After a spicy braised half-dried pollack dinner, the writer stopped in for a palate cleanser on the terrace and tried Jeju lemon, Gyeongsan nectarine, Purespec Black Label orange and stracciatella. Lower sugar and milkfat give Damgeum Gelato a sorbet-like lightness that finishes clean.

After a hearty dinner of spicy braised codfish (codfish jorim), I found myself craving something cool and refreshing for dessert. So I headed out for a happy palate-cleansing trip to 'Damgeum Gelato,' a shop specializing in authentic handmade Italian gelato!

What the Damgeum Gelato shop and terrace feel like
The moment I stepped into Damgeum Gelato Misa Branch, the stylish interior made me feel like I'd stumbled into a tiny gelateria down a European alley. The inside is decorated with a cozy yet sophisticated feel, and even the outdoor terrace was neat and tidy — everywhere I looked, I kept thinking how pretty it all was.

Turns out this place is run by a professional gelatiere trained at an Italian gelato university, who sticks to authentic Italian handmade methods while carefully tailoring the flavors to Korean palates.

Looking at the display case, I saw not just gelato but a variety of coffee and drinks to enjoy alongside it. On any other day I'd have been drawn in by the coffee aroma, but since it was late at night, I held back and decided to focus purely on the gelato itself.

Jeju lemon & Gyeongsan nectarine Orange & stracciatella
Tasting Jeju lemon, nectarine, orange and stracciatella on the terrace
I first sat at an indoor table, but since the night air these days is so cool and pleasant, I moved to the outdoor terrace seating. With the soft lighting and a gentle breeze, enjoying dessert out there felt like pure healing.

From the very first bite, I could tell this was on a completely different level from store-bought ice cream — a deep, handmade flavor. Instead of artificial sweetness or synthetic flavoring, real fruit juice and vivid aroma spread pleasantly through my mouth. The Jeju lemon and orange were so clean and tart they woke me right up, while the Gyeongsan nectarine kept all its sweet, fragrant fruit flesh flavor intact. The stracciatella, with its soft milk base and crunchy chocolate chips, balanced perfectly against the fruit flavors!!
Instead of the overly chewy or greasy texture you'd expect, it had a clean, soft, sorbet-like freshness — apparently because they lower the sugar and milkfat while boosting the ratio of raw ingredients. There was no cloying stickiness, so the aftertaste stayed clean and refreshing all the way through!

Since it's an honest, healthy handmade dessert with no artificial additives, I thought it would be a great snack to give the whole family, kids included, without any worry! If you're in Misa and want to try properly made handmade gelato, I highly recommend stopping by for a post-meal stroll!
