Jeonpo, Busan pork gukbap with a 9,900-won suyuk set: Sanbandeul

In short

Sanbandeul Pork Gukbap, Seomyeon Jeonpo Café Street Main Branch is a pork gukbap (pork and rice soup) restaurant at the entrance to Jeonpo Café Street in Busanjin, Busan, with a 9,900-won gukbap-plus-flame-grilled-suyuk (sliced pork) set advertised on its sign. The set came with mul-milmyeon (cold wheat noodles in broth), bibim-milmyeon (spicy mixed cold noodles) and wang-gyoza (jumbo dumplings), and the low-temperature-cooked pork neck and shoulder was tender with a deeply savory broth. It tastes different from the familiar Busan-style pork gukbap, so Sanbandeul is worth remembering for a filling meal in Jeonpo.

Today I wanted a hearty meal in Seomyeon's Jeonpo neighborhood, so I visited Sanbandeul Pork Gukbap, Seomyeon Jeonpo Café Street Main Branch. Pork gukbap (pork soup with rice) is one of the dishes that naturally comes to mind when I think of Busan, and I'd heard this place does it a little differently, so I went in curious. Sanbandeul sits right near the entrance of Jeonpo Café Street, so it wasn't hard to find while walking down the alley. Alright, let's go check it out together.

Where is Sanbandeul Pork Gukbap on Jeonpo Café Street, and what does the sign promise?

From outside, a red sign advertising gukbap plus suyuk (boiled pork) for ₩9,900 caught my eye, making it easy for first-time visitors to spot. There was signage at the entrance showing the menu and prices, so it was convenient to decide what to order before even going in.

Seating at Sanbandeul: bar seats for solo diners, tables for groups

Stepping inside Sanbandeul, the space felt overall clean and tidy. There were bar-style seats, 2-person tables, and larger tables for groups, making the space suitable for everything from a solo visit to a meal with several people.

Jeonpo Café Street is full of stylish spots, so I tend to care about atmosphere even for a meal here, and this place stood out more for its comfortable, unfussy cleanliness than any over-decorated look.

Sign explaining the pork gukbap ingredients

There's a detailed explanation of the ingredients used in the pork gukbap.

The name Sanbandeul apparently comes from the terrain of a beautiful area of Busan with lots of mountains (san) and fields (deul) — you can see a bit of the owner's philosophy in it.

The basic side dishes came out, and there's a self-serve bar if you want more.

Table set with the gukbap charred suyuk set

What does the 9,900-won gukbap and flame-grilled suyuk set taste like?

What caught my eye first was the gukbap charred suyuk set. Sanbandeul uses a French cooking method to tenderize the pork rather than the usual boiling approach.

A plate of charred suyuk

The pork shoulder and forearm are aged, cured, then cooked at low temperature, and eating it, there was no toughness at all — just a moist, tender texture that stood out. On top of that, char-grilling added a subtle smoky aroma. The broth is a bit different from what you'd expect from typical Busan-style pork gukbap: it's made from domestic pork leg bones and aromatic vegetables simmered for a long time, plus a special sauce using anchovy and seafood, which gives it a distinct umami flavor rather than just heaviness. Adding the soft-boiled egg made it even richer, with the creamy yolk rounding things out. Compared to the pork gukbap I'm used to, this one definitely has its own character.

The suyuk is really delicious — genuinely different from what you get elsewhere.

The sikhye came as a free side too, and it tasted even better alongside the food.

Adding mul-milmyeon, bibim-milmyeon and wang-gyoza

Next I tried the mul-milmyeon, and ordering it alongside a hot soup dish made for a great combination. The cool broth and chewy noodles cleaned the palate nicely.

Lifting a bite of mul-milmyeon noodles

Switching between hot dishes and a bite of cold noodles kept the meal from feeling one-note.

Bibim-milmyeon topped with sauce

The bibim-milmyeon had its own charm — the spicy-sweet sauce coated the noodles evenly, and anyone who likes bold flavors would love it.

A plate of large wang-gyoza dumplings

The wang-gyoza couldn't be skipped either. Biting into the big dumplings revealed a generous filling, and they paired nicely with the noodles and rice.

Is Sanbandeul worth it for pork gukbap in Jeonpo?

If you want to try something a little different from the usual pork gukbap in Jeonpo, or if you're looking for a filling meal in Seomyeon, Sanbandeul Pork Gukbap is worth keeping in mind. It was a fun visit — a familiar Busan comfort food reimagined in a new way. Sanbandeul has enough of its own distinct charm compared to the pork gukbap places I already knew that I'd want to come back and try more of the menu. If you're looking for somewhere to eat on Jeonpo Café Street, it's worth a stop.
