Yeonsinnae Korean BBQ restaurant with a pork belly refill: Golmokjip
In short
Golmokjip Galbisal Yeonsinnae Main Branch is a charcoal Korean BBQ restaurant near Yeonsinnae Station in Eunpyeong, Seoul, where beef galbisal (rib meat) is grilled together with pork belly and pork neck on one assorted platter. On a weekend evening the writer took the last free table, grilled the assorted platter, finished the complimentary doenjang jjigae (soybean paste stew) and a bibim naengmyeon (spicy cold noodles), then ordered a second round of pork belly. At Golmokjip, the galbisal tasted best with fresh wasabi and the pork belly with a garlic wrap.

You know those days when you crave both beef ribs and pork belly? It's honestly hard to find a place nearby that does both really well, but this time I finally found it!!! At [Golmokjip Galbisal] in Yeonsinnae I stuffed myself with pork belly, pork neck, and beef ribs.

How long is the wait on a weekend evening at Golmokjip?
We visited Golmokjip Galbisal Yeonsinnae Main Branch on a weekend evening and it was really packed. Every open table was reserved, and we snagged the one last table left. Lucky!

While we were eating, a huge waitlist formed outside...? You know that secretly satisfying feeling when a line forms while you're already eating, haha? We got excited wondering just how good it could be, and checked out the menu haha.

What comes on the assorted platter: beef galbisal, pork belly, pork neck
True to the name Golmokjip Galbisal, beef galbisal is the star, but the assorted platter menu lets you have pork belly and pork neck together too. It's great value and lets you try everything, so I ordered the assorted platter first!

Blazing charcoal fire haha. The basic side dishes were great too. I especially love adding fresh wasabi on top of grilled meat, and here they even give you fresh wasabi and wholegrain mustard. Already looking like a perfect BBQ spot!

The complimentary doenjang jjigae at Golmokjip
The doenjang jjigae (soybean paste stew) that comes free at Golmokjip Galbisal is seriously insane... it's tastier than stews I've paid for, good enough to finish a whole bowl of rice with. There's galbisal in the stew too, and it's rich and thick — a total rice thief!

How the fresh meat looks and grills on the charcoal
The assorted platter we ordered arrived. It's all fresh meat, not frozen, and even before grilling, just looking at the raw meat you could tell why this place is so popular.

Meat glistening with shine!!

Even the mushrooms have the Golmokjip Galbisal name branded on them haha.
I meant to grill each cut separately, but I wanted to taste everything at once, so I threw it all on the grill together! I was especially surprised by the pork neck, which I'd debated ordering — it was way thicker than expected and great quality. The meaty aroma the moment it hit the grill was amazing.

Everything sizzling away deliciously. They also grilled the garlic and peppers that came with it. If you ask separately for oil, you can dip the garlic in oil and grill it right on the pan — we did that on our second order, and it's amazing wrapped in a bite of meat. Highly recommend if you're ordering!

Best way to eat each cut: beef galbisal, pork neck, pork belly
First, my favorite way! I tried the galbisal with wasabi on top. One bite in and I immediately understood why this is the No. 1 galbisal spot in Yeonsinnae. It melts in your mouth instantly, with juices that aren't too sweet or cloying!

I tried the pork neck with wholegrain mustard sauce, but personally I found wasabi cleaner-tasting than the mustard!

Pork belly really is best wrapped with garlic and ssamjang (dipping sauce) haha. There are so many great pork belly places around that I didn't expect much here, but this is genuinely a pork belly spot too, ugh. If you skip ordering pork belly just because it's known for galbi, you might really regret it!! I went with my mom, and even she said the pork belly was really delicious haha.

Is the bibim naengmyeon at Golmokjip spicy?
You can't have BBQ without naengmyeon (cold noodles)! I'm usually a mul naengmyeon (cold noodle soup) person, but lately I've been into bibim (spicy mixed) more. Maybe because it's easier to wrap up with the meat haha.

The bibim naengmyeon at Golmokjip Galbisal Yeonsinnae branch wasn't spicy at all, even for someone as spice-sensitive as me, and it wasn't too sweet either — a nicely balanced spicy-sweet sauce that paired perfectly with the meat. They say a BBQ place isn't popular if the naengmyeon isn't good, and here even the naengmyeon is delicious, so that says it all!!

Why the second order was pork belly
Debating between more ribs, pork neck, or pork belly, I ended up going with pork belly, as always.... I ordered an extra round of pork belly! The second batch of pork belly looked a bit bigger and plumper — or maybe that's just wishful thinking haha.

Even after already eating plenty of pork belly, the moment it hit the grill again my mouth was watering...! When will I ever get sick of pork belly, haha. As a pork belly lover, I ate myself full again for the first time in a while!
