3rd-floor window seat with Hwaseong Fortress view, egg scone: Caffeine

I went looking for a fortress-view café where I could sip coffee slowly while looking out at Hwaseong Fortress, and ended up at Caffeine Focus.

It's on the Yeonmudae side of Haenggung-dong, so it had a calmer vibe than the busy main street.

I'd wanted to visit ever since I saw photos of the view straight onto the Hwaseong Fortress wall — that was Caffeine Focus.

Sitting by the window in warm sunlight looking out at that quiet scenery felt like it could dissolve all my worries, so I went without hesitating.

I really love this kind of Hwaseong Fortress café atmosphere in general, so I was looking forward to this visit a lot.

Caffeine Focus location, parking, and hours

Caffeine Focus sits just off the main street of Haenggung-dong.

The 3rd-floor window: the real fortress view

The highlight here is definitely the 3rd floor. The view of Hwaseong Fortress through the window is so beautiful it looks like a piece of art.

True to a fortress-view café, sitting at the window means blue sky, green grass, and the fortress wall all come together in a picture-perfect scene.

The 1st floor is for ordering, and I walked in a little excited.

The 2nd floor is modern and clean, great for chatting, but honestly the floor-to-ceiling window view on the 3rd floor won me over.

Just sitting there quietly looking out the window felt like it melted the stress away — now I get why people go out of their way for fortress-view cafés.

Caffeine Focus egg scone: crisp outside, soft inside

As someone who loves bread, I couldn't skip the in-house bakery. This place is apparently already famous for its sourdough ciabatta, but I ordered an egg scone.

It was baked to a golden brown and looked delicious even before I took a bite.

Cut open, the inside was moister and softer than I expected, while the outside stayed slightly firm — the contrast in texture was fun.

It was more dessert-like than a typical dry scone, and easy to enjoy alongside coffee without feeling too heavy. Eating it slowly while looking at the fortress view somehow made it taste even better.

It felt like a dessert made with real care, unique to Caffeine Focus, and I was happy the whole time I was eating it. If you love bread, you should definitely try it.

Butter cream latte and Babamba Earl Grey milk tea

The soft, sweet butter cream latte (iced). With soft cream added on top of the latte, it felt a lot more like a dessert than a regular café latte. The sweet, nutty cream and the coffee went together really well. If you usually like an Einspänner, I'd recommend this one.

The Babamba Earl Grey milk tea (hot) had me curious just from the name. Because of the name "babamba," I expected it to be overly sweet, but the nutty sweetness of chestnut combined with Earl Grey aroma actually balanced out better than I thought. It felt distinctly different from a typical milk tea, so if you're looking for something a bit special at Caffeine Focus, this is worth picking.

It has a completely different charm from the butter cream latte, so ordering both and switching back and forth between sips was fun too, haha.

When and where to take photos

Caffeine Focus is also a spot I'd recommend to anyone who loves photography. Especially in the afternoon when sunlight streams in — grab a window seat with light right away!

On my visit, green grass, Hwaseong Fortress wall, blue sky, and the café table all naturally came together in one frame, so I didn't even need to look for a separate photo zone. Perfect, perfect, haha.

If you're looking for a Haenggung-dong-style aesthetic café or a good photo spot in Suwon, this is a solid choice.

Visit tips and what to try next

Personally, I'd recommend visiting on a clear day. The interior is nice and clean, but the biggest draw is really the Hwaseong Fortress view, so the clearer the sky, the more satisfying the visit will be.

There are so many cafés in Haenggung-dong that it's always hard to decide where to go, but Caffeine Focus stuck with me this time because the view was so distinct. That 3rd-floor window seat with the fortress wall and grass all in view is this place's unique strength.

Next time I'll go back on another clear day and definitely try the ciabatta! And... my stomach hit its limit this time, so I was sad I couldn't have my favorite drink, the avocado one. The owner was also really, really kind — I'll be back soon.
