Hanam Misa gelato café, pure milk and Jeju lemon cups: Damgeum
In short
Damgeum Gelato Misa Branch is a handmade gelato dessert café inside Mono Lounge on Misagangbyeon Hangang-ro in Hanam, Gyeonggi. After an evening drive, the writer sat on the outdoor terrace with two two-flavor cups — pure milk with Jeju lemon, and stracciatella with Gyeongsan nectarine — and tasted clear ingredient flavor rather than heavy sweetness. Damgeum Gelato Misa Branch suits anyone who can't skip ice cream after a meal but still watches the sugar.

We pretty much always have to have ice cream after a meal. (Sugar... worries... hahahaha.) Since we eat it so often, the sugar and ingredients started bothering me a little, so I went looking for ice cream I could enjoy more healthily and that's how I found Damgeum Gelato! It happened to be in Hanam's Misa neighborhood, so we went for a drive and stopped by Damgeum Gelato Misa Branch. 🍨

What is the atmosphere like at Damgeum Gelato Misa Branch?
🏠 Space notes We arrived in the evening, and even the exterior had a nice feel to it.

Under a big awning, there were mint-colored rattan chairs and a terrace lined with potted plants, giving it the feel of a small European gelato shop.

Inside, wood furniture, patterned tile, and Italian décor pieces carried the same mood through from the outside to the interior.

Inside the shop there was also a sign for Ospitalità Italiana

Damgeum is apparently a handmade gelato brand certified by the Italian government. (I haven't been to Italy, but I feel like I visited it this way, haha.)

The evening breeze was so nice that we sat on the outdoor terrace

It was the perfect spot to rest and enjoy dessert after a drive around Hanam.

Damgeum Gelato menu: the flavors available that day
🍱 Menu Damgeum Gelato is handmade, with the ingredients personally selected and prepared, so the lineup changes day to day. That day there were several flavors including Pistachio Bronte D.O.P., stracciatella, pure milk, and Jeju lemon, and we ordered two two-flavor cups.

My boyfriend chose 🥛 pure milk + 🍋 Jeju lemon

And I picked 🍫 stracciatella + 🍑 Gyeongsan nectarine.

Pure milk: low-sugar gelato without an aggressive sweetness
With pure milk, instead of sweetness hitting first, the nutty, smooth flavor of milk came through cleanly. Damgeum describes its gelato as low-sugar, made without artificial sweeteners — not sugar-free or zero-sugar, but with the sugar ratio lowered to let the raw ingredient flavor shine.

For someone like me who can't give up ice cream after a meal but finds strong sweetness a bit much, this suited me well.

Jeju lemon: a sorbetto to alternate with the pure milk
Jeju lemon is a sorbetto, and pairing it with pure milk was especially good. The bright acidity of the lemon cleaned the palate, so alternating between it and the nutty milk flavor worked really well, and the ingredient flavors came through clearly.

Stracciatella: chocolate flecks you can actually chew
Stracciatella had a smooth milk base with chocolate flecks throughout, so the texture was fun too.

Rather than being heavy like a rich chocolate ice cream, it felt like the chocolate was just an accent within the nuttiness of the milk, so it wasn't overwhelming.

Gyeongsan nectarine: a seasonal fresh-fruit flavor
Gyeongsan nectarine was refreshing, true to a fruit flavor. The fact that the menu keeps changing with seasonal or regional produce seems to be part of what makes Damgeum Gelato fun.

Can you buy Damgeum Gelato online?
I was so sad on the way home that I looked into whether online ordering was possible, and it turns out you can buy it on Smartstore!!!
Damgeum introduces itself as being made by gelatiere who completed Italian gelato training courses, using a high ratio of raw ingredients, and states manufacturing principles of no synthetic additives, artificial flavors, or synthetic colors.
Maybe that's why the flavors I tried stuck with me more for their individual ingredient character than for any strong sweetness.

✨ Ppongjulie's verdict A Misa gelato spot that comes to mind when you can't skip ice cream after a meal but want to watch the sugar and ingredients. Next time I want to start by picking whatever seasonal fruit flavor is out that day.
