Today's post is about a filling grilled fish meal I had at Hwadogeuro Gan Godeungeo Siheung Baegot Branch! I love grilled fish, but cooking it at home means dealing with the smell, the smoke, and the cleanup afterward haha 🤣 So grilled fish is always best when someone else grills it for you 👍 I thought this would be a plain place serving just grilled mackerel, but the spread turned out way more generous than expected.
Where is Hwadogeuro Gan Godeungeo Siheung Baegot Branch, and where do you park?
Hwadogeuro Gan Godeungeo Siheung Baegot Branch is at 217, 2F Center Plaza 2, 86 Baegot 3-ro, Siheung-si, Gyeonggi-do. You'll find it on the 2nd floor of the building, and underground parking is available!

There's a big sign near the entrance about the place being featured on TV, which caught my eye before I even walked in. I visited right at lunchtime, and even though the restaurant is spacious, almost every table was full.

What the restaurant looks like at lunchtime
Since it seems like a fairly new restaurant, everything felt clean and pleasant overall! The seating wasn't cramped and the tables were generous, so it looked like a good spot for families too. There really was a wide range of ages among the customers, so anyone looking for a good grilled fish restaurant in Siheung Baegot for a family outing should find this a solid option.

The wood-fired oven inside
On one side of the restaurant, you can actually see the large oven where the fish is grilled. Hwadogeuro Gan Godeungeo grills its fish in an oven that reaches over 500°C, and maybe that's why the outside comes out golden and crisp while the inside stays moist. At some grilled fish places the fish gets overcooked and dry, but here it's definitely the opposite! It's not just called Hwadogeuro ("grilled in a wood-fired oven") for show — the oven was really doing its job 🔥

What comes with the Boyang Set for Two
I ordered the Boyang Set for Two, meant for two adults. The set came with oven-grilled mackerel, flounder, and eel, plus braised mackerel, hot pot rice, and basic side dishes.

Pretty generous-looking spread once it's all laid out, right? I haven't been to a ton of grilled fish restaurants, but I think this is the first time I've seen eel served alongside grilled fish?! That's probably why it's called the "boyang" (health-boosting) set haha. Eating everything from mackerel to eel in one meal definitely left me full.

Oven-grilled mackerel
I tried the mackerel first, and the flesh was so tender it came off in big chunks the moment I put my chopsticks in.

You can tell from the photo how packed with flesh it is, right? The outside was grilled to a nice golden color while the inside stayed soft and moist! The mackerel's signature savory flavor really came through too, so piling a big piece of mackerel onto a spoonful of rice was pure bliss haha.

Grilled flounder and grilled eel
The flounder was also tender and clean-tasting, offering a different appeal from the mackerel.

And personally, the grilled eel was the surprise here! Getting to taste eel alongside a grilled fish set made the meal feel a bit more special, just like the menu's name suggests. Being able to try a little of several kinds of fish, instead of just one, also meant I never got tired of it.
Braised mackerel
Taking a bite of the braised mackerel in between the grilled fish completely changes the mood haha. The sauce wasn't overly spicy — more sweet with a bit of a kick. And honestly, the first thing that caught my eye here was... the size of the radish haha.

There was a huge chunk of radish that had really soaked up the sauce, and it went great with rice. You all know how good the radish in braised mackerel is, right? That flavor where you end up reaching for the radish before the fish haha.
Hot pot rice and the scorched rice at the bottom
The rice isn't just a plain bowl of rice — it comes as hot pot rice. You scoop out the rice first, then pour water in at the end to make scorched rice, done properly!

Grilled mackerel with warm hot pot rice is already a great combo, but finishing with a spoonful of savory scorched rice really rounded off the meal.
What's on the self-bar?

Hwadogeuro Gan Godeungeo Siheung Baegot Branch has a pretty well-stocked self-bar. If the basic side dishes run low, you can grab as much more as you like, and there were wrap vegetables, savory pancakes, tteokbokki (stir-fried rice cakes), and more too. You can even make your own bibimbap with the ingredients provided! I was already full just from the main dishes, but browsing the self-bar kept making me grab one more thing haha.
And I grabbed some tteokbokki without really thinking much of it? Honestly at first glance the rice cakes looked a bit soggy from soaking up the sauce... but why were the soggy rice cakes so good?! haha The rice cakes were still chewy and the seasoning had soaked in well, so it was way better than I expected 🤣 I went for the fish and somehow ended up remembering the tteokbokki too 🍢

There's a sign at the self-bar asking guests not to leave food behind and to take small amounts multiple times instead, so I'd recommend taking a little at a time and going back for more if you need it :)

After the meal, coffee, iced tea, and plum tea are all free to help yourself to. A cool glass of plum tea after all that grilled fish was so refreshing! It was nice being able to have a cup of tea right after the meal without needing to go to a separate café.
Is the Siheung Baegot grilled fish set worth it?
The spread at Hwadogeuro Gan Godeungeo Siheung Baegot Branch was really substantial. Above all, the oven-grilled fish came out crisp on the outside and moist and tender inside, so even people who aren't fans of dry grilled fish should be able to enjoy it without worry. On top of that, with the hot pot rice, the all-you-can-take self-bar, and free coffee and tea after the meal, it was a place where I could enjoy a really hearty meal.
The restaurant was also clean with plenty of seating, so it seemed like a good spot to bring your parents or find a place for a family meal. If you're looking for a grilled fish restaurant in Siheung Baegot and want to enjoy a generous variety of fish beyond just mackerel, this is worth a visit 😊
Went for mackerel, walked out having thoroughly enjoyed eel, hot pot rice, and even tteokbokki — a hearty, health-boosting fish feast! 🐟🔥
