Choosing omegi-tteok on the last day of my Jeju trip

You can’t leave out omegi-tteok when you think of Jeju, right? On the last day of my trip, I stopped by Suragan Tteokbang (수라간떡방) to buy some omegi-tteok to take home. There were so many varieties, so I looked around and chose them one by one.

How were reservation pickup and parking?

The shop is open daily from 08:00 to 18:30. It isn’t far from Jeju Airport, so the route worked well for picking up rice cakes on the last day of a trip. We reserved the rice cakes we wanted the day before and picked them up the next day. We parked briefly in front of the shop and quickly grabbed them!

From omegi-tteok to familiar rice cakes

The shop interior was neatly organized overall. Besides omegi-tteok, there was a wide selection of rice cakes ready to buy, which made it nice to browse and choose them one by one.

Familiar rice cakes such as ssuk-tteok (mugwort rice cake), injeolmi (soybean-powder-coated rice cake), kkul-tteok (honey rice cake), and jeolpyeon (plain steamed rice cake) also caught my eye. I could compare everything in one place, from rice cakes I eat often to omegi-tteok that is great for taking home from Jeju, and there were individually wrapped options so it was easy to select just what I needed. Omegi-tteok came in more than one variety, divided by flavor, so I spent quite a while deciding what to get. Since each one was wrapped individually, they looked convenient to bring home and suitable as gifts, too. As it was the last day of the trip, I was planning to take them straight home, and the storage instructions let me pick several varieties without worry.

You can buy omegi-tteok in the shop right away, and delivery orders are available, too. They also had several kinds of gift boxes ready, which was helpful to keep in mind when choosing gifts.

Pickup complete for the omegi-tteok I had ordered! The box had a handle, so it was easy to carry, and the neat packaging made it great for bringing all the way home.

How to store individually wrapped omegi-tteok

When I got home and opened the box, every omegi-tteok was individually wrapped. The enclosed instructions said to freeze them as soon as they arrive, then take one out before eating and either thaw it naturally or warm it lightly in the microwave. It was more than I could eat all at once, so it was convenient to freeze them in their individual wrappers and take them out one at a time whenever I wanted one.

Trying tangerine and red bean omegi-tteok

I tried them one by one after getting home, and the rice cake was chewy yet soft, so the texture was lovely from the start. The tangerine-flavored one in particular had a subtle citrusy freshness followed by sweetness, and it was the tastiest one for me. The omegi-tteok generously topped with red beans was also gone in no time—the nutty red beans went so well with the chewy rice cake. I had seen recommendations saying the rice cakes here were delicious before I went and was curious, but after trying them myself, I could see why people recommend them.
