Godeungeo Myeongpumi Doeda Suwon Branch is a wood-fired grilled fish restaurant on Seobu-ro in Gwonseon-gu, Suwon, Gyeonggi. On a weekday family visit, the order was grilled Spanish mackerel at 18,000 won, grilled cutlassfish at 19,000 won and gochujang bulgogi at 13,000 won, served with self-serve side dishes, seaweed soup and sikhye (sweet rice drink). Godeungeo Myeongpumi Doeda is a large Korean restaurant that handles a family split between fish lovers and meat lovers without any fuss.

Suji shabu-shabu set for 3 with unlimited makgeolli: Dongchundang

Dongchundang Shabu Shabu Kalguksu Sinbong Oesik Town Branch is a shabu-shabu and kalguksu (knife-cut noodle) restaurant in the Sinbong Oesik Town dining complex in Sinbong-dong, Suji-gu, Yongin. A family of three arrived at 6:20 p.m. on a weekend and ordered the tofu sandwich shabu kalguksu set for 3 at 42,000 won, added mushrooms and minari (water dropwort) for 6,000 won, and used the unlimited makgeolli (rice wine) tap and the self-serve bar. The mild signature broth, mugwort noodles and closing fried rice made a full course, and the large parking lot and free dessert drinks made Dongchundang an easy family dinner.

Ansan Jungang Station butcher shop: ₩30,000 brisket and galbitang

Morakmorak Home & Cook is a budget-friendly butcher shop on the basement level of Star Plaza in Seongpo-dong, Sangnok-gu, Ansan. A takeout haul of chadolbagi (thinly sliced beef brisket), galbitang (short rib soup) and gochujang-marinated beef came to about ₩30,000 in total, and each slice of brisket was surprisingly large. The galbitang runs in the ₩10,000s with plenty of rib meat, making Morakmorak Home & Cook a shop worth returning to for meat near Ansan Jungang Station.

Snug Roastery (삼목집 철산본점) is a 24-hour charcoal Korean BBQ restaurant near Cheolsan Station in Gwangmyeong, Gyeonggi. Booked for a weeknight dinner, the meal ran through premium pork neck, whole-scallion galmaegisal (pork skirt), kimchi jjigae (kimchi stew) and griddle fried rice, all grilled at the table by staff.
