Gangnam café for egg tarts and salt bread: Bakerist Brown

In short

Bakerist Brown is a bakery café between Gangnam Station and Sinnonhyeon Station in Seoul. I tried salt bread, egg tarts, an Alligator pastry, a Gangnam Sand cookie set, and lattes in its spacious, atmospheric space. Verdict: a lovely stop for crisp pastries and colorful cookies.

I’m seriously devoted to nutty, crisp bread, so whenever I head to Gangnam, I always go looking for a good bakery. This time, I visited a place that caught my eye right away with its red-brick exterior and atmospheric wood interior!

There was such a wide variety of high-quality bread that it was perfect for a couple’s date or dessert time with friends.

It sits between Sinnonhyeon Station and Gangnam Station, so it’s very easy to get to. The whole building, from basement level 1 through the third floor, is used by the café, making it airy and spacious. The moment I walked in, the nutty scent of butter filled the shop and instantly lifted my mood.

What kind of bakery items are there?

As soon as I entered, I found an eye-catching display of truly varied desserts and baked goods!

Starting with classic salt bread, there were so many unusual, visually striking varieties, including fig Wappu salt bread, blueberry yogurt Wappu salt bread, and melon salt bread.

There were also egg tarts crisp outside and moist within, wonderfully flaky croissants, madeleines, kouign-amann, and layered pastries. There were so many choices that I happily agonized over what to get.

The display case also held colorful, beautiful Gangnam Sand cookies, incredible-looking mini cakes, and pavlovas.

Salt bread and egg tarts

Salt bread, egg tart, and Alligator

As expected from a well-known Gangnam Station spot for salt bread, the quality was exceptional. The outside was lightly crisp, while the inside was moist and buttery, with a nutty flavor spreading through the mouth. The clean flavor with that savory touch of salt was perfect!

The egg tart was an absolute gem too! Its crisp pastry shell was filled with smooth, sweet egg custard cream, and I couldn’t help but gasp after the first bite. I could see why people call it a great Gangnam Station pastry spot.

Salt bread and egg tart pastries

I ordered the Alligator because it felt like a new menu item. It was a crisp, sweet pastry generously topped with nutty pecans; the chew was lovely and its rich nut flavor paired beautifully with an Americano or latte.

The Gangnam Sand cookie set would make such a great gift! Inside the box were neatly arranged colorful cream sandwiches: Cream Forest (matcha and cream cheese), Peanut Butter Wave (peanut and butter), Black Grain (black sesame and cream), Golden Hour (caramel and white chocolate), London Fog (Earl Grey and white chocolate), Rich Ganache (chocolate and cream), Raspberry Blossom, and Sweet Pumpkin Jack (sweet pumpkin and butter). The crisp cookies held chewy, premium-tasting cream, making it so fun to choose one at a time. They were even more delicious chilled after refrigeration!

Salt cream latte and café latte

The salt cream latte was what I was most curious about! On the first sip, the cream and coffee were richer and more intensely concentrated than I expected.

The flavor was strong, so I added a little cool water. Once diluted, the sweet-and-salty balance clicked into place and it became much nuttier and tastier! If you try the salt cream latte, adding a little water or ice to suit your taste is a handy tip!

The basic café latte also had a wonderful balance of nutty beans and milk, pairing easily and beautifully with the breads.

Overall, the breads and desserts were excellent, and the café’s atmosphere was so lovely that I had a very satisfying time. I recommend it to anyone looking for a Gangnam Station bakery or wanting to try special desserts and sandwich cookies!
