Skirt steak lunch with mom at a Doan-dong, Daejeon hanwoo butcher
In short
Worang Myeongga Daejeon Doan Branch is a butcher-style hanwoo (Korean beef) restaurant in Doan-dong, Seo-gu, Daejeon. Booking a private room for lunch with her mom, the writer picked skirt steak herself at the in-house meat counter and grilled it alongside a spread of raw beef sashimi, tripe and steamed egg, with the chwinamul and minari (aster and water dropwort) salad the standout side. Holiday hanwoo gift sets are sold on site too, making Worang Myeongga a memorable spot for a family meal.

My mom and I have been wanting to eat something good lately to build up some strength, so we went to Worang Myeongga in Doan-dong, Daejeon. We visited at lunchtime, and the first thing that surprised me the moment we walked in was how huge the place was!!! It was one of the biggest hanwoo (Korean beef) restaurants I've ever been to, and there were already plenty of customers even at lunch.
We had reserved ahead, so we were shown to a private room, which made it comfortable to eat just the two of us. The skirt steak we picked ourselves was delicious, and dish after dish that I love kept coming out from the very start of the table setting — I was glad we came to this Daejeon beef restaurant to recharge together, haha.
Where is Worang Myeongga Daejeon Doan Branch, and where do you park?

To get to Worang Myeongga Daejeon Doan Branch, pass the 7-Eleven behind the building and head toward the orange brick building — there you'll find both surface and underground parking, with the underground lot free for 3 hours.
It's near Gapcheon Ecological Lake Park, so it's a convenient spot to reach from either Doan-dong or Gasuwon-dong. When you're taking your parents out for a family meal like we did, parking is always something you worry about, so it's worth keeping in mind that you get 3 free hours, which covers a full meal.
What are the 17 private rooms like inside?
Worang Myeongga Daejeon Doan Branch has 17 private rooms and can apparently seat up to 200 people. Once you step inside, you'll immediately understand why I led with talk of its scale! It's genuinely huge, but also clean and upscale overall, so it felt less like a place you just pop into for meat and more like somewhere you go for a proper meal.
Since we'd reserved ahead, they showed us to a room, which was great because we could talk with my mom without worrying about anyone around us. I also noticed they had baby chairs ready, which made me think this kind of space would work not just for family meals with parents, but for dates, anniversaries, or family gatherings — occasions where you need to pick your venue a bit more carefully.
Choosing skirt steak at the meat counter, plus holiday hanwoo gift sets

Unlike a typical BBQ place where you order a cut from your seat, at Worang Myeongga you get to look at the meat yourself and pick it out at the meat counter! There was hanwoo lined up with so many different cuts that I spent a good while just looking, trying to decide what to eat. Being able to see the condition of the meat with your own eyes and choose is part of the fun that's unique to a butcher-restaurant. And importantly, they only use hanwoo from 30–40 month old female cattle!

After looking over several cuts, we ended up choosing skirt steak that day — it just looked obviously delicious, so we picked it right away, haha. And since the holidays were coming up, the hanwoo gift sets caught my eye too. If you're already looking into hanwoo gift sets, it might be worth coming for a meal and checking them out in person at the meat counter.
Menu prices and the table setting fee

Worang Myeongga is a butcher-restaurant where a separate table setting fee is charged on top of the meat price, and when I visited it was ₩4,000 per person. Besides hanwoo, according to the restaurant they also have meal options good for lunch like galbitang (short rib soup) and hanwoo gukbap (beef and rice soup), along with grilled special sweetbread and grilled beef intestine.
How did the skirt steak and the side dish spread taste?

When we were led into the room, the table setting was already beautifully laid out, and the variety from the start was genuinely impressive. There was a dish of yam over tomato, salad, tangerines, marinated crab, and even steamed egg, which I love, so there was fun in trying each thing one by one even before the meat went on the grill. The salad especially was refreshing and great to eat before the main course, and having tangerines in between refreshed my palate each time, haha.

On top of that came beef tartare, tripe, and even salted pollock roe, so the spread turned out even more generous than expected, which made it great to share with my mom. The beef tartare tasted really fresh to me, and I enjoyed it a lot. Food kept coming out even before the meat hit the grill, which already put me in a good mood before the skirt steak proper began.

And then finally the skirt steak went on the grill, and it was genuinely delicious — ㅜㅜ. The more I chewed, the more the savory flavor came through, so I kept reaching for more without needing much else alongside it.

But more than anything, the chwinamul-minari muchim (seasoned aster and watercress) served alongside was really the kick that defined this place!!
It had that nutty scent of sesame oil, with chwinamul and minari tossed together, and pairing it with the skirt steak every so often was just the perfect combination. Enjoying the meat's own savory flavor and then mixing in this side made for a completely different feeling — of all the side dishes that day, this one stuck with me the most.

After finishing the meal, you can even have coffee and soft-serve ice cream for dessert! Haha. They said writing a receipt review gets you snow ice — an event I definitely had to take part in!!
Is Worang Myeongga worth it for a family lunch?

There are days — like the holidays, a parent's birthday, or a family anniversary — where just picking the venue feels like a task in itself. If you're looking for a good hanwoo restaurant in Daejeon for one of those, it'll be much easier to choose if you think not just about the meat, but about who you're going with and whether you need a quiet space to talk. Next time I have an important family meal coming up, I think Worang Myeongga Daejeon Doan Branch will be the first place that comes to mind :)
