Abalone mulhoe with 4 abalones and rice in the broth, Gangseo Busan
In short
Suseong Susan is a raw fish soup (mulhoe) restaurant behind the Booyoung Sarang Apartments in Sinho-dong, Gangseo, Busan. The abalone mulhoe comes with 4 abalones, and the 3-way mixed mulhoe serves flounder, dab and sailfin sandfish with the sashimi and vegetables plated separately so you can see the freshness for yourself. A mother and daughter who normally never mix rice into mulhoe broth finished a whole bowl of rice in it because the broth was that good — 100% would return.

Hey everyone, do you like mulhoe (cold raw fish soup)? Maybe it's because I was born in Busan, but I love seafood in general, and my mom especially loves mulhoe, so we went out for mulhoe together after a while. We had delicious mixed mulhoe and abalone mulhoe at Suseong Susan, a mulhoe restaurant in Sinho-dong. Let's go meet it together!

Location and parking at Suseong Susan
Suseong Susan, a mulhoe restaurant in Sinho-dong, sits right behind the Booyoung Sarang Apartments, so it was easy to find, and there's a parking lot right next to the restaurant so I didn't have to worry about that either. The place isn't small, so it can seat groups and also does takeout. Even on an early weekday, there were quite a few customers — I guess word's already gotten out that it's a great spot.

They also have baby chairs, in case that's useful for you.

Menu and kiosk ordering
Let me introduce the tasty menu items at Suseong Susan. They have 3-way mixed mulhoe, half-and-half mulhoe, flounder mulhoe, dab mulhoe, and abalone mulhoe, plus abalone porridge, 3-way mixed sashimi bibimbap, half-and-half sashimi bibimbap, flounder sashimi bibimbap, dab sashimi bibimbap, and more — order to your taste.

Ordering is easy with the kiosk. I saw that in winter they also serve amberjack here. I think I'll have to come back in winter just for that.

Abalone mulhoe with 4 abalones
At Suseong Susan, my mom ordered the abalone mulhoe and I ordered the 3-way mixed mulhoe, and they both came out very neatly plated. Personally I prefer when the side dishes come out separately — it felt so clean, and I loved it!

The abalone mulhoe at Suseong Susan comes with 4 fresh abalones, and it seemed like one abalone is basically thrown in free with any mulhoe order by default.

The side dishes were also neat and tidy, and I personally liked that the abalone was served separately. You get seaweed soup, rice, somyeon noodles, acorn jelly, stir-fried fish cake, braised black beans, and stir-fried mushrooms.

3-way mixed mulhoe — flounder, dab, sailfin sandfish
This is the 3-way mixed mulhoe I ordered at Suseong Susan. I liked being able to taste a variety of fish — flounder, dab, and sailfin sandfish. The vegetables were also very fresh.

They give you the vegetables and sauce separately from the mulhoe, and the sashimi separately too, so you can see at a glance exactly how much sashimi you're getting, and it felt fresh. This is just my personal take, but at some raw fish restaurants, leftover sashimi from the previous day sometimes gets tossed into the mulhoe. Both my mom and I had grandmothers who were haenyeo (female divers), so we grew up around seafood and know a thing or two — and here, the sashimi was genuinely fresh.

Mixing the fresh sashimi and vegetables with the tangy sauce was so delicious. The flounder, dab, and sailfin sandfish practically danced in my mouth. I personally like sashimi with a bit of chewy bounce, and this hit the spot.

Mixing rice into the mulhoe broth
Now, neither my mom nor I usually mix rice into mulhoe broth. It can be salty, and we're not fans of mixing rice into cold broth. But the broth at Suseong Susan was so good that when we tried it, it was genuinely delicious. They give you a full bowl of rice too, so make sure to try it — it just slides right in, haha.

Sea views included — 100% would return
If you're looking for a great mulhoe spot in Busan, I recommend Suseong Susan, the mulhoe restaurant in Sinho-dong. The sea is right out front so you can zone out staring at the water too. The weather was great and it was such a lovely date with my mom after a long while. Personally, I'm 100% coming back!
