I had an unexpected day off during the week, so I went out for a relaxed solo lunch. Normally I'd be meeting someone, but since this was a rare day to spend alone, I looked around for somewhere to eat slowly and maybe stop by a café afterward. I found a café that serves sandwiches and brunch, so I figured I could combine lunch and café time in one stop.

Inside Dento: a calm room that's easy to visit alone

Stepping inside Dento, the atmosphere was even calmer and cleaner than I'd expected. Since it was a weekday, I could take my time. Picking a menu slowly, eating while looking around the space — it felt like a much more relaxed lunch hour than usual.

The space was mostly black and beige tones, giving it a warm feel, and just seeing the fresh flowers on the shared table in the middle told me the owner has real taste. They were so pretty I almost wanted them as a wedding bouquet..🫶🏻🫶🏻

In the middle of Dento there's a self-serve bar where you can freely grab water, tableware, wet wipes, and disposable plastic gloves. The owner had even prepared plastic gloves for eating the open sandwiches — such a thoughtful touch.

Dento's open sandwiches come as five different pieces on one plate: pan con tomate, avocado salmon, romesco roasted vegetables, shrimp rémoulade, and truffle ricotta. The staff even explained the tastiest order to eat them in, so I went one by one following their guidance.

First up was the pan con tomate — the fresh, bright tang of the tomato came through immediately, and since it was light, it was a good starter. Next, the avocado salmon paired smoked salmon with avocado, a familiar but well-matched combo, and the soft texture of both together was nice. The one that stuck with me most was the romesco roasted vegetables — roasted broccoli and mushrooms topped with romesco sauce, and the sauce itself was so savory it tasted better than I expected. It was a bit different from the usual sandwich, and even now writing this post, I still remember the flavor.

The shrimp rémoulade had plump shrimp that paired well with the sauce, and something crunchy in the mix gave it good texture — shrimp but light, not heavy at all. Finally, the truffle ricotta had a noticeably richer flavor and aroma than the others! The soft ricotta cheese combined with truffle aroma made for a pretty strong, savory bite, with a slight sweetness that worked well as a dessert-like finish. All five came in bite-size portions, so it was fun comparing the flavors one by one. Eating slowly by myself, I could really pick out what ingredients went into each one — it didn't feel like rushing through a meal, more like properly enjoying a brunch course.

Worried the sandwiches alone might not be enough, I also ordered the aioli potatoes, which turned out to be a great side to go with the sandwiches. The iced drip coffee was clean and crisp, and it matched the sandwiches well too.

Is Dento a good Bongsan-dong café for solo brunch?

This was a day off with no set plans, just me heading out alone for lunch, and thanks to Dento's calm atmosphere, I ended up spending more relaxed time than I expected. The sandwiches were easy and light to eat, and the space wasn't loud or chaotic like some cafés can be — it felt calm enough to enjoy brunch alone. It's also a Bongsan-dong café that would work well for brunch with friends or a partner, chatting over the meal.
