My husband and I made a rare trip out to Seomyeon together.

We were going to see the movie Odyssey, so we headed to Seomyeon in the morning. The showtime was a bit awkwardly early, so while looking for a place near Seomyeon CGV that opens early for breakfast, I came across Odd Bird Oliver.

I'd always loved brunch and had wanted to try this place for a while, and it turned out to open at 9am, which meant we could enjoy a relaxed brunch before the movie. So we decided to visit.

An early-opening brunch spot in Jeonpo

Odd Bird Oliver is a brunch restaurant in Jeonpo that makes its own bread and cheese every day, along with sauces simmered in-house.

Odd Bird Oliver's intro showing house-made bread and cheese

Rather than just assembling ready-made ingredients, they put time and care into preparing each dish from scratch, which made the place exciting for us, since we're a couple who loves places that take food seriously.

Exterior of Odd Bird Oliver

I was especially curious about their daily house-made focaccia. We visited early on a Monday morning, and true to its reputation as a Jeonpo brunch favorite, it was already packed.

I thought it might be a bit quieter on a weekday, but the place already had quite a few customers inside, and we waited about 20 minutes.

I knew it was a famous brunch spot in Seomyeon, but visiting in person made its popularity even more real. There were also a lot of foreign customers, which added to the exotic atmosphere.

An open kitchen makes the wait fun too

The restaurant has an open kitchen, so we could watch the food being made. Seeing the staff prepare dishes right in front of us made the wait less boring, and we got a little peek at the ingredients they use.

It had that comfortable yet stylish vibe typical of brunch places, which made me think it'd be great for a light breakfast or lunch.

Since we had a movie to catch that day, we couldn't sit and linger over the meal, so we ordered dishes we could eat relatively quickly.

Table set with the ordered brunch dishes

House-made focaccia Bismarck sandwich

We started with the Bismarck sandwich. The focaccia looked really appetizing on the outside, and apparently this focaccia is also made fresh every day.

Between the bread was house-made jambon, ricotta cheese, and a poached egg, with a hint of truffle on top. One bite in, none of the ingredients felt out of place — the whole sandwich was well balanced.

The focaccia was light on the outside but soft inside, and combined with the jambon and ricotta, the flavor really came through nicely.

Eating the poached egg alongside it added a soft, yolky richness that made the sandwich feel even juicier. With the subtle truffle aroma layered in, it felt quite different from a typical sandwich.

If you want a properly made brunch in Jeonpo, the Bismarck sandwich is a must-try.

Jamón French toast: a sweet-and-salty combo that worked

One of the dishes I was most looking forward to was the jamón French toast.

French toast usually brings sweet flavors to mind, so I was curious how it would work paired with jamón and ricotta cheese.

A plate of jamón French toast

When it arrived, it was fluffy grilled French toast with ricotta cheese and jamón, served alongside a banana brûlée.

I put the ricotta on the French toast and ate it together with the jamón, and I was surprised at how well they went together. The soft, sweet French toast plus the salty jamón made for a natural sweet-and-salty combo.

Adding the banana brûlée on top brought even more sweetness, giving it a whole different feel to enjoy. Fluffy French toast, soft ricotta, salty jamón, and sweet banana.

Each flavor was distinct on its own, but together they harmonized surprisingly well. If you like sweet-and-salty combinations, you'll probably enjoy this a lot.

Small carrot soup, ordered alongside the sandwich

We also tried the small soup we could add on with the sandwich order — it was carrot soup.

I expected a strong, distinctly carrot-y flavor, but it was smoother and tastier than I anticipated. Sipping the warm carrot soup between bites of the sandwich and French toast worked nicely.

Spooning up the warm carrot soup

The portion was small-sized, so it wasn't too much on top of the other dishes. If you're ordering several brunch items and want to try a bit of soup too, it's worth adding on.

How was brunch before a movie at Seomyeon CGV?

We came out to Seomyeon for a movie and had this brunch as a combined breakfast-lunch before the showtime. I really appreciated that it opens at 9am.

There aren't as many options as you'd think for an early meal in Seomyeon, so if you're looking for an early-opening brunch place around Jeonpo, Odd Bird Oliver is worth keeping in mind.

With daily house-made focaccia, bread, cheese, and simmered-from-scratch sauces, it's a place that puts real care into its food, and it was fun trying each menu item.

It worked well for us needing a meal before a movie at Seomyeon CGV, and it would also suit anyone looking for a good-vibe brunch spot in Jeonpo.

The atmosphere at Odd Bird Oliver was great, so next time I'd like to visit with a bit more time to spare and slowly try the various pasta dishes we didn't get to this time.

100% would come back. This was my review of Odd Bird Oliver, a Jeonpo brunch favorite in Busan. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
