Premium sushi upgrade and ramen add-on in Jung-gu, Busan: Moshi Moshi

Moshi Moshi Sushi Lotte Department Store Gwangbok is a Japanese sushi restaurant on the 10th floor of the main building at Lotte Department Store Gwangbok in Jung-gu, Busan. Set no. 2 comes with 16 pieces of sushi, chashu, vegetable salad, tofu salad, miso soup and a choice of noodles; on this visit the sushi was upgraded to premium and ramen was added for 4,000 won extra. With the add-ons it is not the cheapest way to eat here, but piling the chashu onto the ramen was the most memorable part of the meal.

Moshi Moshi Sushi, Lotte Department Store Dongnae Branch is a Japanese and sushi restaurant on the 8th-floor dining floor of Lotte Department Store Dongnae in Dongnae-gu, Busan, linked to Myeongnyun Station by a pedestrian overpass. The writer ordered three dishes — the Korean beef tartare set (19,000 won), assorted sushi B 10P plus 3 tempura (23,000 won) and flounder & salmon sushi 10P plus 3 tempura (27,500 won) — and ate generously, from the beef tartare rice bowl and mini udon to freshly fried shrimp, eggplant and sweet pumpkin tempura. Easy to reach and well suited to a meal before or after shopping or a film at Lotte Cinema.

Busan outlet Italian restaurant with whole chicken leg pilaf: Bueokgan

Bueokgan Restaurant is an Italian restaurant on NORTH 1F of the Shinsegae Simon Busan Premium Outlets in Gijang, Busan. After a 15-minute wait at 1:15pm on a Sunday, three of us shared carbonara (19,000 won), kung pao chicken pilaf (22,000 won) and pepperoni pizza (17,000 won), and the turkey-sized whole chicken leg and thick cream sauce were the standouts. Parking at the outlet is free, so Bueokgan is an easy lunch stop before a shopping run.

Busan Haeundae family outing: napa cabbage Caesar salad at Bueokgan

Bueokgan Haeundae Branch is a Western restaurant on Dalmaji-gil in Haeundae, Busan, filling a whole building shared with a bakery and a Chinese restaurant. On a Busan outing with her husband and baby, the writer ordered the couple's dish set and added truffle mushroom cream gnocchi, napa cabbage Caesar salad and arugula prosciutto pizza, paying 68,000 won in total. Portions at Bueokgan were generous, the sweet pumpkin soup was the highlight, and the good window seats need a reservation.

Bubble lamp interior at a Marine City Chinese restaurant: Bueokgan

Bueokgan Chinese Marine City Branch is a Chinese restaurant on Marine City 3-ro in Haeundae, Busan, with an ocean view over Dongbaekseom. In a 100-pyeong dining room set with George Nelson bubble lamps and European furniture, the writer ordered suran ogyeop ganjajang (black bean noodles with poached egg and pork belly), chadol usamgyeop jjamppong (spicy noodle soup with beef brisket), and black vinegar deungsim tangsuyuk (sweet and sour pork loin); all three were mild rather than harsh and generous with meat. Between the view, the room and the food, Bueokgan is a place worth returning to.

Songjeong hanok café with a round window seat: Suwolgyeonghwa, Busan

Suwolgyeonghwa is a hanok-style ocean-view tea house on the 3rd and 4th floors of a building one minute on foot from Songjeong Beach in Haeundae, Busan, across from the Gudeokpo underpass. Seated by the round window in the 3rd-floor floor-seating room, the writer tried Bamnui Guleum (chestnut cream latte), Caemo Elixir tea and a Dalbodeurae box of five traditional Korean desserts. For tea and tea-pairing desserts with the sea and the beach train in view, Suwolgyeonghwa is a great pick.

Nampo Station sushi restaurant lunch with toddlers: Moshi Moshi Sushi

Moshi Moshi Sushi Lotte Department Store Gwangbok is a Japanese sushi restaurant on the 10th floor of the main building of Lotte Department Store Gwangbok, near Nampo Station in Jung-gu, Busan. Two adults and two children, ages 4 and 5, arrived at 11:30 a.m. and ordered two adult sushi sets plus one kids' tonkatsu and one kids' udon, and the thick eel nigiri and the restroom right beside the restaurant were the high points. For a lunch in Nampo-dong with small children, Moshi Moshi Sushi keeps the menu decisions simple.

On a rainy weekend, a family of three ordered Set 4 (58,900 won), picked udon as the noodle course and added chicken karaage (Japanese fried chicken, 8,000 won), with high chairs, kids' tableware and a private seat all available. With department store parking, Moshi Moshi Sushi is an easy sushi stop for the whole family.

Bueokgan Restaurant, Shinsegae Simon Busan Premium Outlets is a Western restaurant in Jangan-eup, Gijang, Busan, set just to the left of the KIDS BLOSSOM entrance in the outlet's SOUTH building. On a slightly late weekday evening there was no wait, and the table came with a napa cabbage Caesar salad (16,000 won), seafood tomato pasta (19,000 won) and kung pao chicken pilaf (22,000 won). With wide gaps between tables and baby chairs on hand, Bueokgan is an easy family dinner right after outlet shopping.

Haeundae Western restaurant with natural-light window seats: Bueokgan

Bueokgan Haeundae Branch is a Western restaurant on Dalmaji-gil in Haeundae, Busan, serving pasta, pizza, risotto and steak. Sitting at a window seat lit by sunshine through the big windows, we ordered the truffle mushroom pizza at 22,000 won and the shrimp anchovy oil pasta at 18,000 won; the meatless mushroom pizza was full of flavor and the pasta balanced its oil and anchovy well. For a Western restaurant with a good atmosphere in Haeundae, Bueokgan suits dates, family meals and group gatherings alike.

Gochu japchae and flower buns at Marine City Chinese: Bueokgan

Bueokgan Chinese Marine City Branch is a sea-view Chinese restaurant on the second floor of the Subyeon Choego Pork Gukbap building in Marine City, Haeundae, Busan. Bringing grandma along for a family meal, we ordered gochu japchae with flower buns, seafood nurungji soup and beef brisket jjamppong, and all three were mild enough for older diners. With private rooms inside and a Gwangan Bridge view just outside the door, Bueokgan Chinese suits a three-generation family dinner.

Songjeong ocean-view tea café for egg-yolk ssanghwacha: Suwolgyeonghwa

Suwolgyeonghwa is a traditional tea café on the 4th floor of a building facing Songjeong Beach in Haeundae, Busan, where a full glass wall looks out over the sea and the beach train. Usually an Americano-only drinker, the writer came with her mom and ordered the Bomulgyeol blend tea, ssanghwacha (traditional herbal tea) topped with an egg yolk, and the Dalbodeurae box of Korean-style sweets, taking time to enjoy each aroma first. At Suwolgyeonghwa the tea and sweets left a stronger impression than the view — a lovely spot for tea time with parents.
