Pistache by Capore is a large dog-friendly bakery café in Gangha-myeon, Yangpyeong, Gyeonggi. The writer visited with her mother and their dog Guwol, ordered coffee, salt bread and a raspberry grain baguette, met the mascot poodle Mac and two kittens, and walked through the gallery-like annex and the outdoor path. Pistache by Capore has more to look at than to eat, which makes it a good stop on a Yangpyeong drive.
Yukhoe Dokjon Suwon Station Branch is a chilled hanwoo (Korean beef) yukhoe (raw beef tartare) specialist on Rodeo Street by Suwon Station. A married couple stopped in early on a Friday afternoon and ordered the hanwoo yukhoe platter for two, hanwoo sushi and a bottle of Byeolbit Cheongha (Korean rice wine), and both the yukhoe and the beef sashimi tasted clean with no gamey smell. With beef and radish soup simmering on a mini brazier, Yukhoe Dokjon is an easy place for a meal and a drink.
Raon Sik Tak Pangyo Branch is a wood-fired pizza and fresh pasta restaurant on the Baekhyeon-dong café street in Pangyo, Seongnam, and a 2025–2026 Blue Ribbon pick. For a Friday brunch, the seafood tomato fettuccine came with chewy squid-ink fresh noodles in a sauce loaded with scallops, mussels, squid and shrimp, paired with the house red wine. With corkage at ₩10,000 per bottle and no limit on the number of bottles, Raon Sik Tak Pangyo Branch also works well for group gatherings.
Taejang Sikdang Suwon Station Branch is a frozen pork belly (naengsam) restaurant on the second floor of an alley off Hyanggyo-ro in Paldal-gu, Suwon, Gyeonggi. Three servings of the signature 4mm frozen pork belly were grilled with kimchi, bean sprouts and bracken fern, with steamed egg and cold bibim noodles on the side, and even at 4mm the pork was neither thin nor skimpy. With 90s to 2000s K-pop song festivals on the screens and a retro old-school mood, Taejang Sikdang suits a drink on the way home from work.
Rustic Smokehouse Yongin Bojeong Branch is an American-style barbecue and steak restaurant near the Bojeong-dong café street in Yongin, Gyeonggi. For a 35th birthday dinner with the kids, the writer ordered the BBQ platter and the quesadilla, sharing smoky ribs and melted cheese, and won a cola from the in-store roulette event. After a walk along the Bojeong-dong café street, Rustic Smokehouse made a satisfying family dinner stop.
Mansuheon Jeongja is a charcoal-grilled eel restaurant on Jeongja-il-ro in Jeongja-dong, Bundang, Seongnam, with private rooms and an interior as polished as a Japanese omakase counter. Over dinner with a friend, the writer ordered two servings of salt-grilled eel, an octopus and seasonal vegetable salad as a side, and a Jirisan doenjang (soybean paste) rice roll to finish, with the eel arriving 90 percent pre-grilled so it only needed a moment on the charcoal. Adding a side and a finishing dish instead of ordering four servings of eel made the meal at Mansuheon Jeongja more satisfying.
Damgeum Gelato Misa Branch is a gelato dessert shop inside Mono Lounge on Misagangbyeon Hangang-ro in Hanam, Gyeonggi. On an evening walk, the family stopped in for a two-flavor cup at 7,000 won, choosing Icheon rice with peach and orange with chocolate, and ate on the terrace. The nutty Icheon rice gelato and the lamp-lit terrace are what make Damgeum Gelato Misa Branch worth the walk.
Guigo is a wood-fired grilled fish restaurant on Jungbu-daero in Giheung-gu, Yongin, Gyeonggi, about 5 to 10 minutes by car from Korean Folk Village. The assorted wood-fired grilled fish and solbap (hot pot rice) set for two costs 36,000 won and brings hairtail, mackerel, flatfish and rockfish along with a self-serve side dish bar. With a large parking lot and baby chairs on hand, Guigo works well for family gatherings or a relaxed meal with parents.
Hantiok Lotte Department Store Pyeongchon Branch is a Korean restaurant serving hanwoo (Korean beef) gukbap (rice and soup) and suyuk (sliced boiled beef) on basement level 1 of Lotte Department Store by Beomgye Station in Anyang, Gyeonggi. The Hantiok set brought Korean beef shank suyuk, hanwoo ugeoji gukbap (soup with outer cabbage leaves) and dumplings to one table, and the broth served with the beef was rich yet clean. Nothing was over-seasoned and every dish landed well, so Hantiok is a gukbap spot worth returning to on any trip to Anyang.
Pibing Paldang Branch is a handmade pizza and pasta restaurant on Paldang-ro in Wabu-eup, Namyangju, Gyeonggi. The weekday couple set costs 39,900 won (regular price 55,000 won) and covers one pizza, one pasta and two drinks, so we ordered the Cheongyang carbonara pizza and the truffle mushroom cream pasta and, on the owner's advice, dipped slices of the pizza into the pasta's cream sauce. With baby chairs, a pet-friendly space and its own parking lot, Pibing Paldang Branch suits both a Paldang date and a meal with young children.
Byway Bakers Cheongsa Main Branch is a takeout-only dessert bakery in Uijeongbu, Gyeonggi, right in front of the Gyeonggi Provincial Government Northern Office. On a weekend visit at 5pm, the order was a fresh peach yogurt wakppu salt bread for 7,500 won, a fig pistachio egg tart for 5,600 won and a garlic baguette for 6,000 won, and the egg tart was the best of the three. With no tables at all, Byway Bakers works best for gift boxes and thank-you presents rather than sitting down.
99Jangeo88 Suwon Homaesil Branch is an affordable grilled eel restaurant in Homaesil-dong, Gwonseon-gu, Suwon. Over dinner with an elderly aunt, one full platter of salt-grilled eel came with complimentary doenjang jjigae (soybean paste stew) and gardenia rice, and the owner pre-grilled the eel over high heat so there was no waiting and no smoky smell on clothes. The lean, non-greasy salt-grilled eel makes 99Jangeo88 an easy choice for a meal with older family members.
