Jagajebbang Seonmyeonghui Pizza, Gunpo Branch is a house-dough pizza restaurant in Dang-dong, Gunpo, offering both dine-in and takeout/delivery. Visited on a Friday evening, a large half-and-half pizza (combination and crispy bulgogi) plus a tomato spaghetti left nothing but a thin, edge-free crust to spare. With plenty of tables, it also works well as a beer-and-pizza or family dinner spot.
Donpu The Grill is a Korean BBQ restaurant in Jangi-dong, Gimpo, just 3 minutes on foot from Jangi Station. A couple visited for an early evening dinner and ordered the Donpu Signature Set — pre-seared whole sogalbisal (short rib flap) with grade-1 Korean pork — plus mul-naengmyeon (cold noodle soup in broth), alongside a full spread of banchan including cold jokbal (braised pork), steamed egg, and stone-pot kimchi jjigae, all with six dipping sauces. With staff grilling and cutting the meat tableside, this was a repeat visit worth doing again.
Jeongipum Jjukkumi Gwangmyeong 1st Branch is a griddle-cooked jjukkumi (spicy octopus) restaurant on the ground floor of a mixed-use building housing IKEA and Megabox in Gwangmyeong, Gyeonggi. The writer ordered the signature grilled jjukkumi with extra black pork belly for two, finishing with flying fish roe fried rice, while a staff member cooked tableside and explained how to combine perilla leaf, seaweed, white sauce, roe and meat. A spicy, satisfying lunch stop before or after IKEA shopping.
From Italy is a fusion Italian restaurant in Gomo-ri, Pocheon, Gyeonggi, run by a chef with 26 years of experience at a five-star Seoul hotel. Visiting on a weekend 2pm reservation, the writer ordered whole squid gochujang risotto (₩29,000) and a half-and-half pizza with Hawaiian and arugula smoked salmon, loving the balance of gochujang and tomato sauce and the thin, chewy dough. Portions are generous enough that two dishes fed two people well, making it a memorable date spot off the beaten path.
Artis Theme Park is an indoor animal park and aquarium on the 9th floor of Sinyu Medi Plaza near Dongtan Station in Hwaseong, Gyeonggi. Visiting with two kids, the day covered filling feeding cups, touching rhinoceros beetles and iguanas, doctor fish and starfish, otter feeding for ₩5,000, watching an anteater, catching shrimp, and stingray feeding before finishing at the kids' café for a full 3 hours. If your kids love touching and feeding animals hands-on, this place delivers.
Homilwon Shabu Kalguksu Gimpo Main Branch is a Korean restaurant in Geolpo-dong, Gimpo, Gyeonggi, serving agaricus mushroom broth shabu-shabu that ends in house-made rye kalguksu (wheat noodle soup). Three orders of agaricus shabu kalguksu, a plate of cold boiled pork, and rice came with unlimited refills of Gimpo Geumssal beef mushroom mu-bap (radish rice), and the cold boiled pork tasted clean and rich like jokbal (pig's feet) with no gamey smell. Everyone was too full for the finishing perilla oil fried rice, but the cold boiled pork is a menu to order again.
Dwaeji Gongbang Bucheon Okgil-dong Main Branch is a Korean BBQ restaurant in Bucheon, Gyeonggi, where guests pick and choose pork cuts to their taste. Returning two months after a first visit where a half-set felt a bit short, the writer ordered the full platter this time, which was plenty for a family of four including two kids, plus the free tofu stew, water naengmyeon (cold buckwheat noodles), grilled white kimchi, and an unlimited self-serve bar of wild garlic leaves. Between the chewy pork jowl texture and the free-flowing side dishes, it was a satisfying family meal worth the repeat trip.
Cafe Imchori is a dessert café near the Garden of Morning Calm in Gapyeong, Gyeonggi. The writer tried the signature coffee topped with pine nut cream, a pure milk melon cake, and house-made financiers and canelés, finding the financier dipped into the pine nut cream especially good. With a high-ceilinged, spacious interior, free parking, and pets welcome, it was a comfortable stop while out sightseeing in Gapyeong.
Seorak Makguksu Chuncheon Dakgalbi Yangju Branch is a charcoal dakgalbi (grilled chicken) restaurant on Mansong-ro in Yangju, Gyeonggi, right across from Lakewood CC golf course. A couple visited at 5:30pm for dinner and ordered one portion each of sweet and soy charcoal dakgalbi (₩16,000 each) plus a cold noodle dessert (₩6,000), with staff grilling the pre-seared meat tableside. Both sauces were equally good, and two portions of dakgalbi with one noodle dish was plenty for two adults.
Yajju Yajju Maekom Jjukkumi Main Branch is a spicy webfoot octopus restaurant near Chunui Station in Bucheon, open until 2am. This late-night visit added pork shoulder, udon noodles, and steamed egg to the jjukkumi-samgyeopsal set at spice level 1.5, finishing with fried rice. Chewy octopus, savory sauce, and friendly service made it a spot worth returning to for a late dinner.
Raon Sik Tak Pangyo Branch is an Italian restaurant on Baekhyeon-dong Café Street in Pangyo, Seongnam, known for pizzas baked fresh in a wood-fired oven. On a weekday lunch visit, the writer tried the Cotto e Ricotta pizza made with 72-hour cold-fermented dough and a squid ink tomato fettuccine loaded with seafood. The pizza, fresh out of the oven, was the best wood-fired pizza the writer has had recently, and a public parking lot within walking distance made the visit easy.
Hongrad Suwon Station Branch is a dessert café on the 2nd floor at the end of Rodeo Street near Suwon Station in Suwon, Gyeonggi. The writer ordered the ex-boyfriend toast, topped with cream cheese, vanilla ice cream, and blueberry jam, alongside an iced Americano and an iced café latte, and found the spacious interior with varied seating easy to settle into. Open until 11pm, it doubles as a solid spot for a late-night date near Suwon Station.
