Aewol black pork lunch set for 4 with two jjigae: Nopo Dwaeji Aewol
In short
Nopo Dwaeji Aewol is a black pork barbecue restaurant in Aewol-eup, Jeju, a 3-minute walk from Gwakji Beach. At lunch the writer ordered the lunch special set for 4 — 168-hour aged pork neck and pork belly, Jeju yellow crab doenjang jjigae and aged kimchi jjigae, and seaweed rice — then added bibim hoe naengmyeon (cold noodles with raw fish) at the end. With a clean dining room, a tidy self-bar and baby dishware, Nopo Dwaeji Aewol works well as a lunch stop after a morning at the beach with a child.

Since we're in Jeju, you've got to eat black pork at least once : ) I found this Aewol favorite near Gwakji Beach — [ Nopo Dwaeji ]. The pork neck and belly, aged 168 hours, were thick yet tender, and with the Jeju yellow crab doenjang jjigae (soybean paste stew), aged kimchi jjigae, and seaweed rice, it added up to a proper Jeju-style meal! It was also a great spot for a filling lunch with my kid, so let me walk you through it slowly 🩷

From Gwakji Beach to Nopo Dwaeji Aewol: a 3-minute lunch walk with kids
The dish you always end up eating on a Jeju trip: black pork
Being so close to Gwakji Beach, Nopo Dwaeji made for a pretty convenient route — play at the beach with the kid, then head over for lunch!

Since the restaurant was so clean, it was really easy to visit with a kid 🩷 The self-bar was well kept, and baby dishware was ready to go — if you're looking for an Aewol black pork spot to bring your child to, this place will really put your mind at ease : )

Best of all, since we came at lunchtime, we ordered the [ lunch special set for 4 ] — meat, jjigae, and rice all together, it was quite filling ☺️

How is the 168-hour aged pork neck and belly at Nopo Dwaeji Aewol?
Black pork that waited 168 hours
Nopo Dwaeji's black pork is served after being aged for 168 hours, apparently. But honestly, hearing the aging time matters less than how it tastes when you actually take a bite!

I started with the pork neck, and despite its thickness, it barely felt chewy. When I bit into it, the juices held inside came out moist, followed by a clean, savory flavor ❤️ It wasn't overly fatty, so I could eat several pieces in a row without feeling heavy, and the more I chewed, the more the meat's own flavor came through — I really liked the pork neck 👍

And the pork belly had a different charm ⭐ Grilled to a golden brown, the outside was slightly crisp while the inside stayed moist and soft! Lean meat and fat layers chewed together, and a savory flavor spread through my mouth — exactly the kind of satisfying black pork bite that says 'you have to eat this while you're in Jeju' 🩷

Jeju yellow crab doenjang jjigae vs aged kimchi jjigae: which to pick
Two stews just as good as the black pork: Jeju yellow crab doenjang jjigae and aged kimchi jjigae
As the name suggests, the Jeju yellow crab doenjang jjigae had yellow crab in it, so the broth tasted a bit cleaner and fresher than a typical BBQ restaurant's doenjang jjigae! Behind the nutty flavor of the soybean paste, a subtle umami from the seafood rose up, and it felt like it wiped my palate clean after eating meat.

The aged kimchi jjigae was a whole different story 😊 The tangy, deep flavor from well-fermented kimchi was properly soaked into the broth, and when I ate a spoonful in between bites of meat, it cut through the slight richness left behind, spicy and sharp! The kimchi wasn't under-fermented and light — it had a rich, deeply simmered flavor, and honestly,,, this is the kind of dish that makes you eat rice even when you don't mean to 🤣

Seaweed rice instead of plain white rice with the black pork
Not plain rice, but soft seaweed rice
One fun thing about Nopo Dwaeji! The rice comes as seaweed rice. It felt a bit unexpected to see seaweed rice at a black pork restaurant, but once I actually tried it with the meat, it paired surprisingly well. It had a subtle umami beyond plain white rice, and the rice itself carried a clean, savory flavor that made it feel soft 💟

Finishing with bibim hoe naengmyeon wrapped in pork belly
Ending with bibim hoe naengmyeon
We were already pretty full, but somehow it feels like something's missing if you eat meat without finishing with naengmyeon (cold noodles)! So we added the bibim hoe naengmyeon (spicy cold noodles with raw fish) too 🩷 The spicy-tangy sauce clung nicely to the noodles, and with raw fish mixed in, the extra chewiness made it more interesting than a regular bibim naengmyeon. I especially recommend saving a piece of pork belly and rolling it up with the noodles to eat together. Savory black pork + tangy-spicy naengmyeon — that combo is hard to mess up : )
Planning a Gwakji Beach day with kids? Add Nopo Dwaeji Aewol for lunch
If you're traveling Jeju with a kid like we were, I'd recommend not treating Nopo Dwaeji as a separate destination but pairing it with your Gwakji Beach plans! Spend the morning at the beach with your child, and once everyone starts getting hungry, head over for black pork — it lines up perfectly 👍 (a 3-minute walk away)
This was a place that pretty thoroughly delivered on what I hoped for from a meal in Jeju! Maybe it was because we ate after playing our hearts out at the sea — that warm piece of meat we had that day still stands out as especially delicious in my memory ☺️
