Jeju black pork BBQ finished with carrot cream fried rice: Jeju

In short

Jeju Monteurak Bundang Sunae Branch is a Korean BBQ restaurant near Sunae Station in Seongnam, Gyeonggi, serving charcoal-grilled Jeju pork. The writer started with the Jeju Bansang set, added a serving of ogyeopsal (pork belly), and finished with kimchi jjigae and Jeju carrot cream fried rice, with staff grilling the meat so conversation flowed easily. The ogyeopsal and carrot cream fried rice combination stood out most.

There are days when you just crave the black pork you had in Jeju. That's exactly how I felt this time, so I went to Jeju Monteurak Bundang Sunae Branch for some proper Jeju pork.

It's near Sunae Station so it was easy to find, and since it's built around Jeju pork with a variety of menu items, it seemed like a good spot for a family meal, a get-together with friends, or even a work dinner.

Jeju Monteurak is known for using Jeju-raised pork, and I liked that you can really enjoy Jeju-style charcoal-grilled meat here. Staff grill the meat for you, which was also a plus — no scrambling to grill while trying to eat!

The building itself stands out, so it wasn't hard to find even on a first visit.

Starting with the Jeju Bansang set

That day we ordered the Jeju Bansang set + kimchi jjigae + Jeju carrot cream fried rice.

Table with the Jeju Bansang set and kimchi jjigae

Rather than just eating meat from the start, I wanted to try a bit of everything with the Jeju Bansang set, and I liked that it came with a variety of side dishes to pair with the Jeju pork. When a BBQ place gives you more than just plain meat, it's fun mixing and matching different combinations. It even came with melchet (fermented anchovy sauce), which is essential when eating Jeju-style pork, so I could get a little taste of the Jeju experience.

Jeju pork is delicious just dipped in salt, but switching between melchet, wasabi, and the side dishes let me enjoy a different flavor each time. My favorite combo: grilled baechu-kimchi (white kimchi) + wasabi + scallion salad.

Kimchi jjigae that paired well with the meat

Kimchi jjigae eaten alongside the meat

It just feels incomplete to eat meat without some jjigae (stew) on the side, right? We ordered kimchi jjigae. A warm, spicy spoonful in between bites of meat cleans up your palate again! The spicy kimchi and the deep broth flavor went really well with the meat.

Especially while eating ogyeopsal, alternating with kimchi jjigae cut through the richness, so I kept reaching for more. Jeju Monteurak even has Jeju pork kimchi jjigae on the menu, which shows how well this restaurant pairs pork with kimchi jjigae.

Added extra: ogyeopsal + asparagus

Finishing with just the Jeju Bansang set felt like not quite enough meat, so we added an extra serving of ogyeopsal (pork belly). Ogyeopsal really is the way to go with Jeju pork. Watching it turn golden-brown on the grill gets your appetite going just from the smell. Crispy on the outside, juicy on the inside — the savory pork flavor really came through.

The chewy texture unique to ogyeopsal was great, and grilling it over charcoal added a subtle smoky note that made it feel different from pork grilled at home. Best of all, having the staff grill the meat for us meant we could just relax and enjoy. At most BBQ places, whoever's grilling has to keep watching the pan, which interrupts conversation and makes it hard to focus on eating — but here, staff did the grilling so we could chat comfortably while eating.

What does the Jeju carrot cream fried rice taste like?

And the dish I was most curious about that day! The Jeju carrot cream fried rice. The name alone sets it apart from the fried rice you usually see at BBQ restaurants, right? Made with Jeju carrots in a creamy style, I was curious how it would taste, and it turned out to be a great way to finish off the meal after the meat. The subtle sweetness of the carrot blended with the creamy texture, giving it a distinctly different feel from a regular kimchi fried rice or plain fried rice.

Sometimes you crave something spicy after meat, but this time finishing with the soft, savory Jeju carrot cream fried rice felt refreshingly different, and I liked it. Personally, if you visit Jeju Monteurak, I'd recommend ordering a side dish like this rather than just eating meat and leaving.

When you're craving Jeju black pork in Bundang

A filling meal of the Jeju Bansang set and ogyeopsal

Overall, everything we ordered came together nicely. Enjoying the variety of sides with the Jeju Bansang set → adding ogyeopsal for a proper meat fix → getting spicy with the kimchi jjigae → finishing with the Jeju carrot cream fried rice! Eating in this order made for a pretty filling meal.

I think the biggest advantage is being able to enjoy Jeju-style pork near Sunae Station without having to travel all the way to Jeju Island. If you're looking for good restaurants near Sunae Station in Bundang, a BBQ place near Sunae Station, or a good spot for ogyeopsal in Bundang, this is worth a visit.

It'll also suit anyone who loves charcoal-grilled Jeju pork or would rather eat comfortably than grill the meat themselves. That day I tried everything from the Jeju Bansang set to ogyeopsal, kimchi jjigae, and the Jeju carrot cream fried rice, and personally, the combination of ogyeopsal and the carrot cream fried rice stuck with me the most. If you're looking for a BBQ place near Sunae Station with a real taste of Jeju, I'd recommend Jeju Monteurak Bundang Sunae Branch.
