Wine-scented Louis Wolju tea at Suwolgyeonghwa, a Songjeong tea café

Suwolgyeonghwa is a traditional tea café on the 3rd and 4th floors of a building one minute's walk from Songjeong Beach in Haeundae, Busan, with ocean views through picture windows. On this return visit the order was Louis Wolju tea, gabae-ole and the Dalbodeure box of traditional sweets: the Louis Wolju had a gentle wine aroma with a lightly sweet finish, and the gabae-ole was nutty and smooth. Between the setting and the drinks and desserts, Suwolgyeonghwa is worth another stop on any Songjeong outing.

69,900-won sushi meal for two in Dongnae, Busan: Moshi Moshi Sushi

Moshi Moshi Sushi, Lotte Department Store Dongnae Branch is a Japanese sushi restaurant on the 8th floor of Lotte Department Store in Dongnae-gu, Busan. A big-appetite couple ordered Set 3 (16 pieces of sushi, salmon salad and soba) plus a small shrimp tempura and a cola for 69,900 won in total, and rated the thick-cut salmon salad and the deeply flavoured cold soba broth the highlights. For a tidy, filling lunch on the department store's 8th floor, Moshi Moshi Sushi was a solid pick.

Haeundae restaurant for a Chuseok couple's dish set: Bueokgan

Bueokgan Haeundae Branch is a European restaurant of over 330 square meters on Dalmaji-gil in Haeundae, Busan. Looking for an atmospheric place to eat over the Chuseok holiday, the writer ordered the couple's dish set — sweet pumpkin soup, garden salad, abalone cream risotto and basil margherita pizza — and rated the soup, made by grinding fresh sweet pumpkin in house, and the risotto topped with fried enoki mushrooms as the highlights. Bueokgan Haeundae Branch gets both food and atmosphere right, making it a solid pick for a date or a group meal in Haeundae.

Babymoon meal at a Busan Station milmyeon restaurant: Yeongdong

Yeongdong Milmyeon & Dwaeji Gukbap Busan Station Branch is a Korean restaurant on the second floor of the building right next to Busan Station in Dong-gu, serving both milmyeon (chilled wheat noodles) and dwaeji gukbap (pork rice soup) in one place. On the last day of a third-trimester babymoon trip, with one hour left before the train back to Seoul, the order was suyuk baekban (boiled pork set meal), mul milmyeon and bibim milmyeon, with the pork wrapped in the noodles, and every dish arrived quickly. Wide gaps between tables and room for two suitcases make Yeongdong Milmyeon a practical meal right before or after a Busan Station train.

Jeonpo tonkatsu restaurant with a goods zone and 10-minute wait: Hets

Hets Jeonpo Branch is a Japanese-style tonkatsu restaurant on Jeonpo-daero in Busanjin, Busan. Arriving near the end of weekday lunch meant a wait of about 10 minutes, and two Jeju black pork assorted katsu plates brought both loin katsu and hire katsu (tenderloin cutlet), with an open kitchen, a goods zone and a support event to look around. The moist, tender hire katsu was the clear favorite at Hets Jeonpo Branch.

Gijang outlet restaurant with sold-out tablet menu on Sunday: Bueokgan

Bueokgan Restaurant is a Western-style restaurant on the 1st floor of Shinsegae Simon Busan Premium Outlets in Gijang, Busan. Arriving around 6:50 pm on a Sunday, we ordered carbonara (19,000 won), truffle mushroom cream gnocchi (22,000 won), lemonade (6,500 won) and zero-sugar cola (2,500 won) for a total of 50,000 won. Plenty of items were sold out on the tablet menu, so the choice was limited, but if you like thick cream sauce and truffle aroma, Bueokgan works well for a meal after shopping.

Black vinegar tangsuyuk at a Marine City Chinese restaurant: Bueokgan

Bueokgan Chinese Marine City Branch is a Chinese restaurant on the 2nd floor of the Adelis commercial building in Marine City, Haeundae, Busan, with a panoramic ocean view of Dongbaekseom. Meeting a friend down from Ulsan for lunch before shopping in Centum, the writer took a window seat and ordered poached-egg pork belly ganjajang (black bean noodles) at 10,000 won, pork belly mapo tofu rice bowl at 12,000 won, and a small black vinegar pork loin tangsuyuk (sweet and sour pork) at 28,000 won. The Adelis lot gives 90 minutes of free parking, more than enough for a meal, and Bueokgan Chinese delivers both the view and the food.

Farm-themed Haeundae restaurant, no weekend lunch wait: Smith's Farm

Smith's Farm is a farm-themed Western restaurant near Dongbaek Station in Haeundae, Busan. Arriving before the weekend lunch peak meant no wait at Smith's Farm, where the Margherita pizza and shrimp oil pasta arrived at a table in a dining room that runs from 4-person tables to wide group seating for family meals and gatherings. The pizza poured cheese like a waterfall and the oil pasta came loaded with shrimp, and both were satisfying.

Seomyeon galbitang restaurant, photo-review hand cream: Gang Galbitang

Gang Galbitang Seomyeon is a galbitang (beef short rib soup) and galbi-gukbap specialist on Saessak-ro near Seomyeon Station in Busanjin, Busan. A couple ordered one basic galbitang and one spicy galbitang, picked the ribs clean, helped themselves to the self-bar side dishes, and finished with mix coffee from the dessert corner; a sign on every table offers a Korean-made hand cream for a receipt photo review. Between the clear broth, the spicy bowl with three heat levels and the free extras, Gang Galbitang is an easy, filling meal in Seomyeon.

Lotte Gwangbok sushi with egg nigiri for a 7-year-old: Moshi Moshi

On a weekend visit with her husband and 7-year-old son, the writer ordered the udon-sushi set, salmon sushi, egg sushi (tamago nigiri) and a croquette, and staff brought kids' tableware and a fork as soon as the family sat down. Moshi Moshi Sushi made for a satisfying family meal built into a day of shopping.

Gwangan Bridge-view café with holiday latte: Working Holiday Minrak

Working Holiday Minrak is a brunch café with Gwangan Bridge views on the 7th floor of the Badamaru building in Minrak-dong, Suyeong, Busan. On a return visit at 4pm on a weekday, the order was Margherita pizza at 22,000 won, panuozzo at 17,000 won, a holiday latte at 7,000 won and a zero-sugar cola at 3,000 won, eaten on the terrace overlooking Gwangalli Beach and the Minrak-dong breakwater. Between the floor-to-ceiling sea view and the wood-fired pizza, Working Holiday Minrak is an easy recommendation for a date in Gwangalli.
