Day drinking at a 2pm-opening BBQ restaurant in Icheon: Jeongsiljangne

Jeongsiljangne Ppalgan Gogi is a charcoal-grilled marinated meat restaurant in the Changjeon-dong food alley in Icheon, Gyeonggi, and it opens at 2pm, so day drinking is on the table. Arriving as the first customers right at opening on a Saturday, we had two servings of spicy raw pork belly (200g each), a big bowl bibimbap and soju, and the egg roll, doenjang stew and banchan were all just as good. A solid pick in Icheon when spicy grilled meat and an afternoon bottle of soju sound right.

Real Toon Comic Café is a comic café and indoor hangout on the 9th floor of Seongsan Tower Plus in the Misa area of Hanam, Gyeonggi. Guests take their shoes off to lounge in private rooms reading comics, play Nintendo Switch, and order tteokbokki (spicy rice cakes), ramyeon, fried snacks and rice as a full meal. Real Toon Comic Café is a solid pick when you want to spend a few hours indoors in Misa somewhere other than a regular café.

Bultina Kkomak Jjamppong Dongtan Namgwangjang Branch is a cockle jjamppong (spicy seafood noodle soup) specialist at Namgwangjang square in Dongtan, Hwaseong, Gyeonggi. Visiting with two young children, the writer ordered level 3 cockle jjamppong, level 1 cockle jjamppong rice, jajangmyeon at 8,000 won and a small tangsuyuk at 17,000 won, and the yunni-jjajang style noodles and soft sweet-and-sour pork both went down easily with the kids. With high chairs and 90 minutes of free parking in the public lot right outside, Bultina Kkomak Jjamppong works well for a family meal.

Cheoncheon-dong Suwon malatang charged only by weight: Rahongbang

Rahongbang Malatang Suwon Cheoncheon Branch is a malatang (Sichuan-style spicy hot pot) restaurant in Cheoncheon-dong, Suwon, near Starfield Suwon, where skewers and meat carry no extra fee and everything is priced by weight. The pickled side dishes kept every bite fresh right to the end of the meal.
