Ava Hair Dongtan Yeongcheon is a second-floor hair salon on Dongtansunhwan-daero in Hwaseong, Gyeonggi. After a consultation with head stylist Sia, hair left dry by frequent perms and dyeing got a high-layered cut focused on the damaged sections, followed by a wave perm. The layers and waves gave the style real movement, and Ava Hair Dongtan Yeongcheon was running a 40% first-visit discount advertised at the entrance.
Orange Bagel is a large bakery café on Omokcheon-ro in Gwonseon-gu, Suwon, Gyeonggi. On a Sunday 9am visit, Orange Bagel served a Laugen butter bagel, a scallion cream bacon bagel, mushroom cream soup and an iced orangeano across two floors styled like an American bagel shop. Arriving before 10am meant the full bread lineup was still on display, making Orange Bagel a satisfying early-morning brunch stop.
Deungchon Shabu Kalguksu Gran Passage Branch is a shabu kalguksu (knife-cut noodle soup) restaurant on the 2nd floor of Gran Passage Green Zone, across from Dongtan Lake Park in Hwaseong, Gyeonggi. After a walk around the lake, a couple ordered the spicy mushroom kalguksu with an extra 180g of shabu beef and ate it in three stages: shabu-shabu, then noodles, then egg fried rice. On a cool day when you want a punchy, spicy broth, this course works well as a Dongtan Lake Park lunch.
Doonjeong is a Korean restaurant in Hyangdong, Deokyang-gu, Goyang, Gyeonggi, near Sangam DMC, specialising in clear gomtang (beef bone soup) made with 100% domestic hanwoo cow. The writer's table at Doonjeong brought clear hanwoo gomtang, hanwoo yukhoe bibimbap (raw beef with rice) and a side of seasoned meat muchim, paired with a glass of Hansan sogokju rice wine, and the broth was clean enough that even a companion who rarely drinks soup emptied the bowl. Two straight years on the Blue Ribbon Survey list, 2025 and 2026, make sense after a meal like this.
Nyanya is a large café on the fifth floor of the 25 Siquare building in Gojan-dong, Ansan, Gyeonggi, and it keeps two resident cats. We ordered the signature cream Hong Kong waffle, a peanut cream latte and a matcha latte, and the Hong Kong waffle was nutty and soft with a texture unlike a regular waffle. With plenty of sofa seating and wide open views, Nyanya suits dates as well as family and group gatherings.
Teukbyeolhan Chobap (특별한 초밥) is a conveyor-belt sushi restaurant on the 2nd floor of Yeongtong Central Shopping Center in Suwon, Gyeonggi, where every plate is a flat 1,890 won. On a weekday lunch, two people sat at the bar seats and ate 25 to 30 plates, and the flounder fin, egg with shrimp, and freshly fried shrimp tempura were the best of them. Teukbyeolhan Chobap is worth a visit if you want to try a wide range of sushi without watching the bill.
Dream Samgyetang is a Korean restaurant for samgyetang (ginseng chicken soup) about 279 meters from Exit 2 of GTX-A Dongtan Station in Hwaseong, Gyeonggi. On a second visit at 2pm on a weekday, the restaurant was nearly empty, and the meal covered the signature Dream Samgyetang, a seafood pancake side and the ginseng liquor that comes with it — a rich broth that was not too salty, with almost no gamey chicken smell. Dream Samgyetang held up as a restorative meal for the change of seasons, even the second time around.
Minimale Coffee Roaster Gwacheon Knowledge Information Town Branch is a roastery bakery café on the first floor of Gwacheon Knowledge Information Town in Gyeonggi. Visiting with a two-year-old, the writer took a window sofa seat and ordered the signature Helsinki latte, an Americano, cream salt bread and original babka for just under 20,000 won. Baby high chairs, 3 hours of free parking and high ceilings make Minimale an easy place to linger with a small child.
Dadam Shabu Shabu & Wolnamssam Wirye Branch is an all-you-can-eat shabu-shabu restaurant on the 3rd floor of G&G Plaza on Wiryegwangjang-ro, near Namwirye Station in Seongnam, Gyeonggi. For 21,900 won per person, Dadam serves unlimited meat plus a self-bar of vegetables and mushrooms sourced from Garak Market, fish cakes, noodles, Vietnamese rice paper wraps and pineapple, finished with a shabu porridge stirred with chopped minari (water celery). With free coffee and ice cream for dessert, Dadam is the kind of place families come back to again and again.
Jagajebbang Seonmyeonghui Pizza, Gunpo Branch is a pizza restaurant with house-made dough at 16 Yongho1-ro in Dang-dong, Gunpo, Gyeonggi, near Dangjeong Station. Rather than a half-and-half pie, the order here was a whole sweet potato pizza with cheese crust added, plus a side of carbonara, and the sweetness of the sweet potato with the savory cheese kept a single flavor from getting boring. If you like sweet potato pizza, adding the cheese crust at Seonmyeonghui Pizza is a combination worth ordering.
Two Find Peter Baegot Branch is a pasta and pizza restaurant in Baegot, Siheung, about 10 minutes by car from Shinsegae Siheung Outlet. Two friends shared vongole pasta (13,000 won), tomato seafood pasta, Caesar salad and pepperoni thin pizza, and the vongole had a savoury broth with no fishy taste. Reasonable prices, a private room and parking make Two Find Peter an easy stop on an outlet day out.
Jangjakkun Yatap Direct Branch is a nurungji (scorched rice) whole chicken restaurant tucked inside the restaurant alley by Yatap Station in Seongnam, Gyeonggi. On a Sunday afternoon we reserved a table timed to the 16:30 chicken-roasting slot and ordered the herbal nurungji chicken at 21,000 won and the rosé nurungji chicken at 26,000 won for the kids. Alternating between the two flavors kept every bite interesting, and since Jangjakkun has no dedicated lot, the Matgoeul public parking lot is the easiest place to park.
