Anniversary dinner in Misa, Hanam: eggplant ricotta pizza at Bokkeriu

Bokkeriu is a Western restaurant with Han River views on Misadong-ro in Hanam, Gyeonggi. For a wedding anniversary, a couple ordered the steak set for two — sourdough, corn soup, ricotta cheese salad, shrimp bisque pasta, 200g Korean beef striploin and Basque cheesecake — added an eggplant ricotta pizza, and received the lettered dessert they had requested when booking. With a full glass wall over the river at night, Bokkeriu works well for a special-occasion dinner.

Seated at an outdoor table with a dog, the writer ordered perilla oil kalguksu as a single dish (13,000 won) and the spicy mixed kalguksu set with tender pork jowl suyuk (19,000 won), then mixed rice into the leftover perilla sauce to finish. Her mother called it the best thing they ate all day.

Pyeongchon food street pho with extra cilantro, Anyang: Pho Witch

Pho Witch is a Vietnamese restaurant on the Pyeongchon food street in Pyeongchon-dong, Anyang, Gyeonggi, run by a brother and sister seven years apart. Arriving on a weekend at 1 pm meant a 10-minute wait for a table, and the order was the younger sibling's spicy pho (13,000 won) with extra cilantro, the Passionate Siblings' smoky pad thai (13,000 won) and mixed fritters (6,500 won). The broth is about as hot as Shin Ramyun and pairs well with the thick, saucy pad thai, which makes Pho Witch an easy pho recommendation in Pyeongchon-dong.

Pocheon restaurant with baby chairs and kids' tableware: Myeongimong

Myeongimong is a Korean restaurant on Sinpyeong-ro in Sinbuk-myeon, Pocheon, Gyeonggi, specialising in charcoal-grilled tteokgalbi (grilled pork patties) and house-made buckwheat makguksu noodles. Set 2 brings two charcoal pork tteokgalbi, 13,000 won each, with one bowl of makguksu, 10,000 won, and the cold buckwheat mul-makguksu broth was clean and mild while the tteokgalbi was neither too sweet nor too salty, so even the baby ate it well. With baby chairs, kids' tableware at the self-serve bar and a large parking lot, Myeongimong is an easy family meal out in Pocheon.
