Nampo Station sushi restaurant with engawa nigiri: Moshi Moshi Sushi

Moshi Moshi Sushi Lotte Department Store Gwangbok is a Japanese sushi restaurant on the 10th floor of the main building at Lotte Department Store Gwangbok in Jung-gu, Busan. Two of us ordered Set no. 4 — 18 pieces of sushi, shrimp tempura and udon — and worked through engawa (halibut fin), salmon futomaki, beef, yukhoe (raw beef) and abalone nigiri, with the engawa sushi the clear best pick. Moshi Moshi Sushi makes an easy, quiet lunch near Nampo Station in the middle of a shopping trip.

Moshi Moshi Sushi, Lotte Department Store Dongnae Branch is a Japanese restaurant on the 8th floor of Lotte Department Store Dongnae in Busan, reached by crossing the pedestrian bridge from Exit 5 of Myeongnyun Station. Visiting with her niece, the writer ordered Set 4 — 18 pieces of sushi, shrimp tempura and a choice of noodles — picking udon, and enjoyed everything from the soft tofu salad served before the meal to the tuna and salmon sushi. With high chairs and partitioned seats, Moshi Moshi Sushi Dongnae works well for a meal with a child during a shopping trip.

Bueokgan Chinese Haeundae Branch is a roughly 50-pyeong Chinese restaurant on Dalmaji-gil in Haeundae-gu, Busan. The writer and her boyfriend ordered poached egg pork belly jjajangmyeon, a mapo tofu rice bowl, menboxia (shiitake and shrimp fritter), paihuanggua (Chinese smashed cucumber salad) and zero-sugar cola, and the menboxia was fried to order, crisp and mild rather than sharply seasoned. With European furniture and an upscale mood, Bueokgan Chinese suits dates as well as family and group meals.

Jeonpo tonkatsu with no dinner wait and free refills: Hets, Busan

Hets Jeonpo Branch is a Japanese-style tonkatsu restaurant in Busanjin, Busan, a 297m walk from Exit 7 of Jeonpo Station. Arriving in the evening meant no wait at all, and with the limited sang loin katsu sold out, the meal was YBD loin katsu eaten with whole black pepper and wasabi. Rice and cabbage salad both come with free refills, so Hets Jeonpo Branch makes for a filling, fuss-free dinner.

Songjeong café with kiosk ordering and a free teabag: Suwolgyeonghwa

Suwolgyeonghwa is an ocean-view tea café on the 4th floor of a building near Songjeong Beach in Haeundae, Busan. At Suwolgyeonghwa you pick from the menu board, take a seat and then order at the kiosk; this visit brought iced Hyeonwolhojicha and Hojigabae plus the Dal Bodeure dessert box, enjoyed at a window seat looking out over Songjeong Beach and the beach train. A review-event teabag came free on the way out, making Suwolgyeonghwa an easy choice for tea with a sea view in Songjeong.

Bueokgan Restaurant is a Western restaurant standing on its own at the very back of NORTH 1F inside Shinsegae Simon Busan Premium Outlets in Gijang, Busan. On a weekend outing, a pregnant diner ordered the grilled mushroom salad at 16,000 won, the pepperoni pizza at 17,000 won and the basil pesto cream pasta at 18,000 won, paying 53,500 won in total and finishing everything down to the pizza crust ends. The seasoning at Bueokgan was mild rather than salty, making it a 100% revisit.

Bueokgan Chinese Marine City Branch is an ocean-view Chinese restaurant in Haeundae, Busan, on the second floor above Subyeon Choigo Pork Gukbap. The visit covered a mapo tofu rice bowl, gochu ganjajang and black vinegar tangsuyuk (sweet and sour pork), all ordered from a tablet in a wide hall with plenty of space between tables. Of everything on the table at Bueokgan Chinese, the mapo tofu rice bowl is the dish worth ordering.

Busan tonkatsu second branch, first visit for meat curry: Hets Jeonpo

Hets Jeonpo Branch is a tonkatsu (pork cutlet) restaurant on the second floor of a main-road building in Busanjin, Busan, and the second location after the Gwangan branch. A regular at the Gwangan branch came with a friend for a late dinner and ordered YBD hire katsu, YBD loin katsu, meat curry and oolong tea, and rated the kkakdugi and salad sauce just as highly. With bar seating full of solo diners and a CatchTable kiosk outside for waiting, Hets Jeonpo is an easy stop for tonkatsu in Jeonpo.

Bueokgan Chinese Haeundae Branch is a premium Chinese restaurant on the ground floor of a standalone building on Dalmaji-gil in Haeundae, Busan. On a drive out with a friend, the writer tried and ranked the three signature dishes — poached-egg five-layer pork gan-jjajang (10.0), kkanpung shrimp (28.0) and beef belly jjamppong (12.0) — rating the gan-jjajang and the shrimp a 200% return visit, while the sweet jjamppong broth disappointed anyone hoping for authentic heat. With George Nelson bubble lamps, wood furniture, curbside and underground parking and free corkage for up to 3 bottles, Bueokgan Chinese suits both dates and group gatherings.

Booked for 5:30 p.m. on a Sunday, the writer and her mother shared set no. 2 — 16 pieces of sushi plus char siu and yaki udon for 58,900 won — with clean, bite-sized sushi that had no fishy smell and yaki udon loaded with squid, scallop, shrimp and meat. A 1-minute walk from Nampo Station, Moshi Moshi Sushi is an easy family dinner spot after shopping.

Two diners ordered the sashimi platter of tuna, salmon, flounder and abalone, a rich-broth ramen and shrimp tempura, and the sashimi was thick-cut with no fishy smell and plenty for two. With Dongnae and Myeongnyun stations both nearby and department store parking, Moshi Moshi Sushi works well for dinner on a shopping or movie day.
