Anyang café with fresh fig ade and pumpkin campagne toast: Notten

Notten is a brunch café newly opened on the Dongpyeon-maeul café street in Anyang, Gyeonggi. Visiting with my mother, we ordered the seasonal campagne French toast, a sour-forward americano made with Momos Coffee beans, and a fig ade topped with half a fresh fig; Notten's handmade campagne uses 100% Korean wheat mixed with sweet pumpkin for a nutty, clean taste. The owner serves and clears the tables in person, and Notten felt like a café worth becoming a regular at.

Korean lamb BBQ at an outdoor table near Jeongja Station: Yangmadam

Yangmadam Bangchon Lamb, Bundang Direct Branch is a lamb rib restaurant a five-minute walk from Exit 3 of Jeongja Station in Seongnam, Gyeonggi. Three friends shared lamb rib boil for two (48,000 won), lamb rib BBQ for two (50,000 won), mala bibimbap and drinks at an outdoor sidewalk table for 118,000 won total. The boiled lamb falls off the bone at a touch of the chopsticks, and ordering it alongside the smoky sweet-salty BBQ was the right call at Yangmadam Bangchon Lamb.

Anniversary lunch course at Pangyo Japanese restaurant Suyori Sikdang

Suyori Sikdang is a Japanese course-meal restaurant on the basement level of Pangyoyeok-ro in Seongnam, Gyeonggi, seating guests mainly at the counter. A couple booked through Catch Table for an anniversary date and ate the 45,000-won-per-person lunch omakase, which ran from shiitake and gamtae (seaweed) porridge and steamed abalone through sushi, eggplant tempura, udon and yuja sorbet. For a quiet course meal in Pangyo without a heavy bill, Suyori Sikdang is well worth booking for an anniversary.

Namhae Mulgogi is a sashimi restaurant specializing in aged fish near Beomgye Station, on Pyeongchon-daero 223beon-gil in Anyang. Three friends ordered the kelp-aged sashimi set for three, which runs from pre-meal porridge through sushi, cooked fish, fried dishes and hot pot, and the soft aged sashimi, with no chewy bites at all, was the standout.
