Haga Naju Gomtang Hwaseong Woojeong branch is a gomtang (Korean beef soup) restaurant that has been open in Woojeong-eup, Hwaseong, Gyeonggi since 2017. On the way home from a day out with the kids, the writer ordered two bowls of Haga Gomtang (ox bone broth) and one Haga Naju Gomtang (meat broth) at 9,500 won each, and the thinly sliced Korean hanwoo beef was tender with no gamy smell. Domestic hanwoo beef under 10,000 won plus a 120-seat dining room make Haga Naju Gomtang an easy choice for a family dinner with children or a group meal.

Suwon café with a sweet decaf vanilla latte and cookie: Jeong Jiyeong

Jeong Jiyeong Coffee Roasters Starfield Suwon Branch is a roastery café on the 2nd floor of Starfield Suwon in Suwon, Gyeonggi. The order was a decaf vanilla latte, a decaf iced americano and a peanut strawberry cookie: the vanilla latte tasted quite sweet, the americano came through strongly bitter, and the nutty, sugary cookie went well with both. Next visit, the plan is to go back to the signature coconut drink that tasted better here before.

Parking is easy and no one rushes you out, so Gorae Byeoljang Suji Branch is worth remembering for a casual drink in Seongbok-dong.

Custom suit shop near Jeongja Station, Seongnam: JJ Republic Bundang

JJ Republic Bundang is a custom suit shop a short walk from Jeongja Station Exit 5 in Seongnam, Gyeonggi, making suits from 590,000 won for two through its own production line at the Sinsa-dong headquarters in Gangnam. The writer had her tall boyfriend, who struggles to find ready-made suits that fit, measured for a commuting suit in the Prestige fabric in the 'Yeonbam' color, with matte horn buttons, brown 7690 lining, a single-breasted cut and one back vent. Choosing everything from fabric to fit, with a follow-up visit for adjustments two weeks later, made JJ Republic Bundang a satisfying first custom suit experience.

JJ Republic Ilsan Lafesta is a custom suit shop near Jeongbalsan Station and the Lafesta shopping street in Ilsandong-gu, Goyang, Gyeonggi. Ahead of a wedding, the writer visited to order a father-of-the-groom suit, choosing fabric, buttons, shirt collar and cuffs, and had measurements taken that allowed for a middle-aged build with a fuller waist and narrower shoulders plus a stooped posture. JJ Republic makes the suits on its own in-house production line and throws in a tie, which made the visit well worth it.

Jeongsiljangne Ppalgan Gogi is a charcoal-grilled marinated meat restaurant in the Changjeon-dong food alley in Icheon, Gyeonggi, and it opens at 2pm, so day drinking is on the table. Arriving as the first customers right at opening on a Saturday, we had two servings of spicy raw pork belly (200g each), a big bowl bibimbap and soju, and the egg roll, doenjang stew and banchan were all just as good. A solid pick in Icheon when spicy grilled meat and an afternoon bottle of soju sound right.
