Chamsae Bori Sikppang, Bucheon main branch, is a barley bread bakery on Gyeongin-ro in Sosa-gu, about a 10-minute walk from Bucheon Station. Looking for bread to eat instead of breakfast, the writer arrived at 11am and bought one Daesang chapbori loaf, one grain chapbori loaf and two rye chapbori loaves, and all three were moist and nutty. If you want a loaf made without wheat flour for breakfast, Chamsae Bori Sikppang Bucheon main branch is the answer.

Suwon café with mall parking and butter rice cake: Café Meomureum

Café Meomureum is a spacious bakery café on the 2nd floor of Dongsin Complex Mall in Jeongja-dong, Suwon. A post-meal stop brought coffee and warm yuja (citron) tea with three butter rice cakes for 5,000 won plus a salt bread, and the crisp-outside, chewy-inside rice cakes and lightly salty bread both went well with the coffee. Despite the mall's aging exterior, Café Meomureum has generously spaced seats and use of the mall parking lot, making it an easy place to rest when driving.

Ihwajeong Charcoal-Grilled Pork Galbi is a second-floor charcoal-grilled marinated pork galbi restaurant on Manse-ro in Pyeongtaek, Gyeonggi. Visiting with a child, the writer grilled three servings of Ihwajeong pork galbi over charcoal, ate it in lettuce wraps with the restaurant's special ssamjang, and finished with bibim naengmyeon and two self-serve cups of pear slush. Both the marinade and the ssamjang were so good that even the child cleaned the plate, making Ihwajeong an easy family dinner out.

Ilsan sushi set for two with free kids' porridge: Hwangje Sushi

Hwangje Sushi Ilsan Main Branch is a Japanese sushi restaurant on Baengma-ro, right in front of Ilsan Lake Park in Goyang, Gyeonggi. At the end of a weekend family outing the writer ordered the assorted sushi set for two, which arrived with grilled fish, abalone innard porridge, potato croquettes and mini udon, and the owner brought out a separate bowl of abalone innard porridge and two croquettes for the kids. Between the texture of the aged flounder sushi and that care for children, Hwangje Sushi was a no-fail pick for a family meal in Ilsan.
