Busan galbitang restaurant for hangover soup with rice: Gang Galbitang
In short
Gang Galbitang Seomyeon is a galbitang (short rib soup) restaurant in Busanjin, Busan, near Exit 11 of Seomyeon Station. Returning after a year, the writer ordered two basic galbitang bowls, sipped the hot stone-pot broth as hangover cure, and mixed in a bowl of rice topped with meat for a filling lunch. With ribs that pulled easily off the bone and broth perfect for the morning after, this is a place worth another visit.

Today I went to Gang Galbitang, one of the go-to spots for gukbap (rice soup) in Seomyeon, Busan, to eat some galbitang (short rib soup) simmered in a hot stone pot — perfect for a hangover from drinking the night before.

300m from Seomyeon Station Exit 11: location and hours of Gang Galbitang
The restaurant is called "Gang Galbitang." It had been a whole year since I'd had galbitang in Busan, so my steps were light heading over.
Location: 1F, 33 Saessak-ro, Busanjin-gu, Busan, South Korea, Gang Galbitang Seomyeon. Walk about 300 meters from Seomyeon Station Exit 11 toward Choeup and Busan Citizens Park, and it's in the building next to T Hotel, across from the Busanjin District Office.

The restaurant had a wooden shade blocking the sun out front, which made the waiting area in front of the shop look cool and comfortable.

A standing sign out front showed six menu items, and the place also sells mealkits, which made it look really promising. We were too excited to eat, so we quickly headed inside.

Seating and menu inside the restaurant
Inside, the tables were made up of 4-person tables, single seats, and a bar table. The interior wasn't too small — just the right size, which I really liked.

Framed menu items hung one by one on the wall, and the menu consisted of galbitang, spicy galbitang, galbi gukbap, spicy galbi gukbap, galbi noodle soup, and aerong sataeng suyuk (boiled beef shank).
We ordered two basic galbitang, and after a bit of waiting, the bubbling hot galbitang appeared with a flourish.

Basic side dishes and the self-serve bar
The basic side dishes were kkakdugi (cubed radish kimchi), peppers, soy dipping sauce for the meat, and pickled Chinese artichoke, and there was also dried radish strips at the self-serve bar, so I grabbed some of that too.

Hot stone-pot broth, perfect for a hangover
The broth was really warm, and it was exactly the kind of broth you want for a hangover after drinking the night before — an absolutely amazing broth that I kept spooning up.

The galbitang had both thin wheat noodles and glass noodles in it — the wheat noodles were really soft, and the glass noodles were chewy, so it seemed like the kind of noodles older folks would especially love. Thumbs up.

Ribs that pull easily off the bone
Usually with galbitang, the meat is tough and hard to pull off the bone, which always bothered me — but here, the meat came off the bone really easily and just melted in my mouth, and dipping it in the soy sauce made it even better with that tangy kick.

They mix a bowl of rice into the broth for you, and topping it with meat made it taste even better — a hearty, filling galbitang for a full meal.

How much are the mealkits?
They sell mealkits in regular and special sizes. If you buy one after eating in-store, you get ₩500 off per item, which seems like a nice way for people to keep enjoying it at home. Regular is ₩13,500, special is ₩16,500, and if you buy 4 or more, you get free nationwide delivery!!!
Today I ordered two galbitang at Gang Galbitang, one of the go-to gukbap spots in Seomyeon, Busan, and after a whole year, eating such genuinely delicious galbitang made for a happy lunch — one I'd love to have again if I get the chance 💗
